There was a big "keith is sexist" reaction because of this, which is weird because I could've sworn that was Burrows' voice asking the question...

I don't think he should've said that. It was a pretty ignorant thing to say. The "first female referee" thing I don't care about. It's the disrespect for the reporter that's unprofessional whether the reporter's female or not.

Bah, I'm sure he would have said something similarly toxic in reaction to a male reporter asking similarly idiotic questions.

Ha-ha , nice! No need for keith to bring in the gender card on this one, he looks like a dummy on that one. Could have made his point without bringing that in. No surprise though how certain media outlets west of here are only running his one statement and crying out sexism like he 'ripped into her' as some are saying. If you listen to the full interview the reporter was clearly baiting him, then backing off when he asked what she saw. Not sure what kind of answer you expect from the opposing team's player when you get in his face about a tough loss. Ask a stupid question get a stupid answer.

Yup, it's tone. He could have said it with a smile and a "can do" attitude and it would have been a non-issue or, in fact, applauded for being excited about talking on the subject...

The reporter, of whom it happened to, said it's a non issue so it's a non issue. It was just someone lashing out at what he could lash out to after the loss. He's not John Robert Tortorella bad at lashing out however.

I think you are partially correct; Keith probably should have said nothing. Based from the transcript the reporter baited Keith into saying something stupid--which he did. That being said, making a disrespectful comment is probably indicative of the amount of respect Keith has for the reporter in question.

Much ado about nothing.
Reported makes a stupid remark, player fires back.
His choice of words could have been better and she should have known better than to attempt to confront a player about something that happens all the time on the ice. Especially after a loss.

Not a great idea to bringing up gender with the reporter, but I agree with FlameZilla that the question was idiotic. She is essentially saying that there should have been a penalty on the play on Keith, and then expecting a reaction. A reaction she received...

Nothing just checking?

If you want to ask a person a question after a tough loss just get to the fan point instead of making it a frustrating exchange.

To me, reading the transcript, she is essentially asking Keith: "Could you please talk us through the play where you massively ####ed up and should have gotten a penalty but Sedin still scored anyway? How do you feel about that? I mean, I know he scored and negated the delayed penalty anyway, but do you think the ref got the call right?'

It's Busch league reporting and Keith in my eyes has every right to respond with an equal lack of professionalism.

No, you should always take a higher road.

However, Chicago is the #1 team in the NHL so it is good to see that he is still fired up after a loss!

It was a stupid question. Has any player in the NHL ever admitted that he should have received a penalty that he didn't receive?

Also, as it says in the story, if it did deserve a penalty (which it did), the goal that was scored immediately afterward wiped it out.

I don't think there's anything inappropriate about the "maybe you should be a referee" comment. If it had been a male reporter, it would have also been a completely acceptable response.

He shouldn't have brought up her gender because it was completely irrelevant to the stupidity of the question. He obviously doesn't deal with the Calgary media enough, or he'd know that stupid questions don't have anything to do with the gender of the reporter.

She's a green reporter trying to ask the tough, probing question, he was being a d!ck. I agree with FlameZilla, bush on both sides.

Getting blown WAY out of proportion here in Van. The way they are talking about it on the TEAM here, you'd think he went all Namath on her.

She's basically the Team 1040's reporter who runs does the quick sports updates every half an hour or whatever. So yeah, she's a Canucks fan.

She should have asked if diving was going to be an Olymic sport in Sochi?

Karen has been covering Canuck games for the last three years. She does the in game updates then covers a room grabbing post game audio. Sure, she likes the Canucks, but she knows what her job is and she's a reporter first.

I do believe that Keith was being a jackass but not buying the sexist argument. In my opinion, he would have said that to anyone. He played the "I played, you haven't" card, but I don't think you need to have played to know what a slash is. Given Keith's history with Daniel Sedin dating back to last year's elbow, it was a fair question to ask. When Keith dropped the very cocky "see ya" at the end of the clip, that just capped off his condescending tone. No need to talk down to a person like that.

Karen has handled this great. She's not making a big deal of this at all. She's a tough lady, this is already water under the bridge.

Keith being a jackass? Yep. Keith being sexist? I'm not buying it.
