Wedding resort in the Mayan??
No.........not for me, but for a relative. Trying to figure out a good place for a wedding party and possibly quite a few guests to stay in the Mayan Riviera early next year. Looking for something family friendly, that will do weddings and isn't stupid expensive, hopefully around $1500 a week max. I did a search on here but quite a few posts are from 2008/09, just wondering if anyone has been down there in the past year or so and has a solid suggestion.
Any help would be appreciated

My friend got married a few years ago at Bahia Principe near Tulum. It was all very nice, but I think that resort got hit by a hurricane, so I don't know what it might be like now.
There seemed to be a lot of paper work, and blood tests.

We took our honeymoon here in August 2011 and they had a nice wedding setup - clean, modern resort halfway between Cancun & Playa Del Carmen:

no idea how they do for weddings, but I stayed at this Adults only resort (I think 16+) and I would go back in a heart beat

I have been lucky enough to stay at my fair share of resorts, and I loved this place.
It is large compared to your Cancun resorts, so more walking, but in town, so not massive, which can be a pro or con.

We went to a wedding at the Real Resort in Cancun. It was not the adults only resort and the service was sub par. They did try to hose my buddy and his soon to be wife for an extra 1500.00 US on the day of their wedding threatening to cancel the ceremony and dinner if they could not come to some sort of compromise......

Really? That's not exactly a ringing endorsement for that hotel.....asking for an extra 1500? There's either some poor communication going on there or it's just a shady place. Yikes.

Barcelo Maya for sure!

Best friend got married there, about 30 of us, it was a great time and an amazing resort. Great thing is you can get standard to fancy rooms so there is something for every budget.

I have a wedding in May at the Bahai so hopefully it is nice.
I also went to a wedding here http://www.hoteloceancoralturquesa.net/ at the grand ocean turquesa which was really good. The food was great and the resort was small enough that it was easy to find everyone without having to deal with setting up meeting spots and such.

We had our wedding at the Moon Palace. This place is unreal, so much so the one of my best men and a buddy of mine, who attended, both had their weddings there. Wedding packages are awesome there.

I've been to Mexico over 30 times, this by far was the best resort.

when my wife and i went to the mayan, we stayed at the "Valentin Imperial". It was awesome, and the best food i've had at any all inclusive resort (compared to numerous stops in jamaica, cuba, mexico).
While we were there there was a pretty large wedding taking place, so know they cater to it.

Looks great, but is adult only. I need to find a kid friendly resort. Thanks anyway.

Ya, it up there. Although now you do get $1500 worth of resort credit.
Which is pretty cool. But ya. It's a 5 star for sure.
When we had our wedding, we basically said that this is where we are having it, if you can make it then awesome! If not, well we understand. We had a lot of people just stay at the resort for a few days. And you can get passes for off resort guests.
There are a lot of options to make your day affordable to others.

Moon Palace is great. A big step up from Bahia Principe. It is your wedding day and the Palace resorts are top notch for service in the area, when compared to other all inclusives.
My buddy had a few issues with Bahia for their wedding. They moved days on him and it really messed everyone's schedule up (some were checking out the new wedding day). The wedding party (which i was part of) ordered beer, nacho's and burgers to the room for lunch (the day of the wedding). They showed up at the door saying they were over their alotted beer amount per day in room and wouldnt send anymore up (even if we paid). They also brought a plate of 10 nacho's with runny cheese on it and nothing else. Had to go to the buffet across the resort and load up.
Time of year also matters... in October it is the tail end of rainy season and really humid. Bahia Coba being inland was unbearably humid. Akumul (closer to the ocean) was better.

I've been going for the past 3 of 4 years to Grand Palladium in the Mayan (4-4.5 stars) during x-mas and new years and it's been great. Tons of restaurants on the resort, great service, great rooms, good beach and massive. In fact it's the second largest resort on the Mayan next to Grand Bahia Principe, but it's higher end. Everyone I know has also talked well about Barcelo Maya, though that is a little more expensive. I wouldn't worry about getting something adult only, as the Mayan generally is for adults, and even if kids are there, for the most part they're with their parents anyway. Teens avoid places like these anyway.

My friends got married last May at Now Jade resort by Puerto Morelos. It was fantastic, the place did a great job, and I can even give you the information for the photographers they hired (a Mexican company who did great) and who they dealt with at the hotel.
I guess the hotel specializes in weddings - they did 50 last April and 35 last May.

Looks very nice, but also looks to be close to 2k for a week, a little too much.

Looking back I think we paid around $1,600-1,650 each at the time. So it's not always over $2k!

Out of the 4 or so times I have been down to the Mayan and any other AI in Carribean islands that I have been to this has been the best resort so far. Granted it was probably 6 years ago but it had the best food, great layout, friendliest staff. It might be a little more expensive but it is worth it.
