I thought it was a good hit.

Maybe a fine at the most, and only because there was no penalty called because of a little bit of a jump.

If a Ref watched the hit happen live and didn't even call a penalty, why would Shanny suspend him?
Good hit. IMO.

Clearly leaves his feet before the contact. My guess is that he will get a game or 2 suspension.

He should get more than a game, not because it's egregious, but they should be trying to eliminate that as much as possible from the game.
Make an example.

No need for those hits in the modern game, suspend him.

Definitely leaves his feet. Should be at least a game, probably more.

Max it's a 2 minute penalty. The suspension thing is getting to be a bit of a joke.

yeah, he left his feet - it should have been a charging call...suspension or fine? Nah.

this is a classic ovechkin hit everyone gets upset about and I see little wrong doing. He is off his feet maybe a inch at contact. After contact is when you see him really elevate.
Shanahans calls should be 100% related to did he target the head or chest. I cant really tell on those replays but if Schenn went shoulder to chin/head I give him 1 game. If it was to the shoulder I call it a clean hit.

I will agree on the charge due to the distance traveled for the hit....the ref made the error by not calling it 2 minutes. If anyone needs the hearing it should be the official getting a brush up on charging.

If I remember correctly, anytime there's in-person meeting with Shanahan a suspension follows.
So probably at least a game for Schenn

If you think he left his feet (which you say you do above), even if it's 1", it's charging regardless of the distance traveled.

By definition yes. I can point out a dozen hits a game where a player leaves his feet an inch for even a small hit along the boards and it is not called. IMO more emphasis is going to be placed on the fact he just came on the ice and B lined it straight for the hit vs leaving his feet by a inch.

these calls make me nuts.....left his feet okay.....maybe he should have just climbed up the boards and DDT'D him as he went by then he would have already in advance left his feet, the playing surface, therefore resulting in a clean hit.
Come on guys if your gonna be dirty and leave your feet think outside the box.

Good call on Shanahan's part: left his feet, targeted the head = 1 game.
