Doing Stand Up Comedy In Calgary

Spent the last few years in Vancouver doing a lot of it, just wanted to know if theres any open mic nights or establishments in Calgary that have any amateur stand up nights or competitions? They seem to be hard to find and few in numbers, so thought I'd take to CP and ask!

I'm quite sure Broken City still has comedy monday nights. Not 100% though.

How do you handle the inevitable turds you lay as a rookie?

I went to Yuk Yuk's a little while ago and it was the opener's first live weekend show. It was awkward how not good he was.

Yuk's Yuks has a open mic / work shop on wednesdays, largest one in the city...my buddy runs it

The Comedy Cave doesn't have open mic night, but you could give them a call and see if they'll give you a shot.

I chatted with my buddy, for straight up Mic time go to broken city, wednesdays at Yuks is now stand-up comedy work shops to improve your skills..

One of my friends just did his first performance at Broken City.

Scoped it out one week, met the guy who runs it, was told that if he shows up a seven he'll get a five-minute spot (show starts at eight). Next week, he was on stage.

Guy said too though that after your first performance you're not special anymore so you'd probably get about one spot a month until you build up a reputation.

Can't think of the name, but there's a pub on the corner of 8th ave and 7th st (IIRC) that had an open mic night once a week.

Check out Jupiter Comedy. They put on an 'open mic' every wednesday in Kensington. Seen some newbies and some real pros on stage doing comedy there. It's a small venue but I definitely recommend it.
