Draft Pick

When do you think the flames reach the playoffs again?
Just wondering.
Do you think it will take really long, a medium time, or small time?
(If there is a thread like this, delete.)
EDIT: Maybe we could get a poll going?

3-4 years for playoffs. 2 years after making the playoffs a legit chance at a cup, if done right and not rushed.
I guess they could pull a Florida and get a bunch of UFA players and get in next year, miss the year after, but they will not win a cup going that route.

According to our Owner/GM/Puppet Master... Next year seems viable.

Fine thread in my opinion.
Honestly. After watching a few games with some youngsters leading in ice time, I feel much better than I anticipated. Especially after looking at our 20mil (give or take) in cap space. Depending on the moves made in the off-season. I don't see us being far off. That's just my opinion. I feel a different atmosphere already in game pace and competitiveness since Iggy, Bouwmeester, and Tanguay and Kipper to a degree have stepped off the ice and out of their roles. The Phoenix and Edmonton games were the best flames games I've watched all season.

All depends if Feaster and Weisbrod are successful at who they draft and resist the urge to go off the board with their picks.

I think whatever happens this off-season will be very indicative of our future success..
Based on current assets in the system? 4-5 years?
If this summer goes really well? maybe 2-3 I'd guess.
Edit: If you look at other teams that have bottomed out (ie toronto, Edmonton) it's not until they bottom out that they're ready for a half-decade turnaround, often. That's not always the case, but it's sort of a coinflip either way. Could be awful (half decade) Could be an amazing retool.
I'd put my bets towards the former over the latter.

Pencil the Flames into the playoffs for 2013-14...

What makes you think they'll continue to be a cap team?

I think we'll be back in playoffs within 3 seasons.

Draft Pick
|
Sorry, I forgot to give my in depth view on this:
What we have now: some depth prospects that could also become 2nd liners, but are more likely to top out as 3rd line scoring forwards, such as: Horak, Reinhart, Ferland, Ramage Breen, etc.
We have some exceptions that we expect to be top 2 lines IF they pan out, i.e. Baertschi, Gaudreau, Jankowski, Backlund.
Here is where things can change though, the 2013 draft, we have three picks, lets say they are 4th, 15th, and 28th over all. I say we don't want to be over the top on one position like the oilers, so I say with the 4th, take Barkov/Best Centerman, then take a defenceman with the St Louis pick, (Ristolainen or Morrisey) then with the Pit pick take the BPA, as it would be harder to pridict how good a player will be there.
We will probobly still suck in 13/14, so then take BPA that draft.
Then Pray to god one of Ramo/Berra turn out.
And if all goes well, 2 years till playoffs
