Didn't the flames want him in the summer?

I think it was rumoured the Blues offered D'Agostini and a 2nd for Bouwmeester.

Even the group which hated Bouwmeester found it low balling, if memory serves.

This was expected with Oshie and Macdonald both back in the lineup.. D'agostini wasn't living up to expectations there, should be a good fit in NJ.

Wonder what the return is..

Seems like a bit of an underpayment for a decent 2-3 liner.

D'Agostini is a pending RFA who has really struggled this year.

With 8 other RFAs to deal with this year who are vastly outperforming him, the writing was on the wall.

Tom Gulitti@TGfireandice4m
Devils acquire F Matt D'Agostini and conditional 7th rd pick from Blues in exchange for conditional 4th or 5th round pick.

Tom Gulitti@TGfireandice3m
All pick involved in the D'Agostini trade are in 2015.

Good deal for the Both. Devils don't give up much and get a gritty player for their 3rd line. Blues had to many RFA's going into the summer.

So basically Devils get a 5th for PLL for then trade a fifht for D'Agostini and a fifth for Lokitonov both decent NHL players. These little pick ups for the Devils sure look good.

Edit: probably gonna be ua UFA since I doubt the Devils will qualify him. Anyways a good pick up for the rest of the year

Incremental moves to make the team better, one late round pick at a time.

Alot of small moves being made the heavey hitters should be hitting the market in the next few days if not this will be one boring dead line.

Difference between St. L and Calgary Management teams. Currently, before dumping D'Agostini's 1.6 cap hit they were 14M .... 14M (Bouwmeester and Iginla) behind the Flames in cap spending.

They are in great position to pick up the Flames buyout players (Bouwmeester/Cammalleri) for a million or 2 like they did with Redden. There will be a lot of Redden's and Gomez's floating around next year as the cap spending team drop 6M from their caps.

St. L. in good position to make the playoffs for another year deals with getting rid of someone who does not fit into their long-term plans rather than picking up a bunch of 2nd-3rd liners to fill in on the playoff run in case of injury.

D'Agostini as a upcoming RFA would have to be qualified at 1.8 to 1.9 M or become a UFA.

That is too much for a Stempniak level player.
