Default Major crash near Leduc sends 100 to hospitals across Alberta

Quote:
Approximately 300 people are enroute to hospitals in Edmonton and area after a massive crash involving 100 cars near Leduc.

“There’s probably about 10 different hospitals, maybe more that we’re utilizing,” said Kerry Williamson, spokesperson for Alberta Health Services.

Williamson said the 300 injured people include four seriously injured patients, who were transported to the University of Alberta Hospital.

“We haven’t dealt with anything like this, but we do have plans. It’s a code orange which is sort of a mass casualty incident,” he said.

Here's a panoramic shot of the front of crash. Not a great shot but a little more perspective.

I remember during my Foothills orientation, they hadn't declared a Code Orange in as long as anyone there could remember.

When WAS the last time that happened?

Wow, scary stuff. My best friend got rear ended by one of those tractor trailers in a multi-vehicle pile up in similar conditions just after Christmas when driving between Toronto and Montreal and he was lucky to be alive with relatively minor injuries.

I hope everyone injured pulls through.

I know the 300 person quote came from an AHS rep but it seems incredibly high for the amount of vehicles. Crazy. Thoughts and prayers.

Boss wanted to send a colleague and I up to Edmonton for some work today. I told him to check his head and look at the weather forecast. Sure glad I didn't go!

Apparently some of the pictures going around are fake or old. But it sounds crazy nonetheless.

Hmmm that sucks. A friend posted it and she was driving on the QE2 today. Guess I got duped. I'll remove the original.

Numbers changed

http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/edmont...r-driving.html

Quote:
Alberta Health Services confirms that 100 people were injured — one seriously — in a multi-vehicle pileup on Highway 2 south of Edmonton, near Leduc, that occurred during a spring snowstorm which caused havoc on area highways.
The new numbers have been adjusted from the 300 who were reported injured earlier in the day.

I think the 300 is total from multiple accidents, not just this one. Highway 2 is closed - I'm stuck in Edmonton
