Default Andrej Sustr (UFA) has decided to field NHL offers. - Update Signs with Tampa

No surprise, but Andrej Sustr, 6-foot-8 Univ of Nebraska-Omaha junior dman (UFA), has officially decided to leave school/field NHL offers.

per Bob Mckenzie - twittblast

25 points in 39 games this year. Hope Flames make a strong pitch and he doesnt go join the other special players up north.

Dont actually know too much about him but am intrigued with him being 6'8'' so who knows.

These things always seem to be prearranged unfortunatly, an hour later the kids (new?) agent will announce he is off to Philly for a vast sum of money

I don't see him as a big upgrade over Breen, if at all.

College UFAs are the most overrated players on the planet.

an over-rated college hockey player..... don't get me wrong but not highly talented. his size should help especially if he can be taught to play a "shut-down" game like a matt greene. I mean how do you think he slipt through during the draft years?

Wouldn't he have to sign a standard ELC? Just like Schultz and Cervenka

damn, 6'8?

i want to see him signed just to see how ridiculously taller he is then the rest of the team. Imagine him and Breen together. Would be awesome.

Any old Ak-Sar-Ben Knights correspondants on CP willing to give a scouting report on this kid?

The fact the Flames don't really have much of any depth in the defensive prospect ranks makes signing or acquiring guys like Sustr all that much more important. While I'm not expecting him to become anything exceptional, the more darts you throw at the board means you're more likely to hit the target. It would be mutually beneficial for Sustr to come here as he doesn't really have much competition throughout the organization.

I'm guessing you've seen him play? His size is tempting, but if the Flames go after him, I hope he's got something else going for him. I remember people saying Chara was a slow, late developer.

But if you have seen him would you be able to expand on why he's over-rated. Thanks.

McKenzie said Sustr is one of the consensus top 3 college UFAs for NHL scouts this year (the other 2 are DeKeyser and Laganiere).

Would be nice to get that kid, but I'm pretty sure those college kids and their "family advisers" will look at the NHL rosters and look for an opportunity. They'll see us carrying 8 defensemen because of an unnecessary logjam of #5-7 blueliners in a heartbeat ...

Prediction:

If Feaster signs the kid: CP reacts with overwhelming negativity. "Wasted contract on an unknown kid... this organization is going no where under Feaster. He talked about how the team is excited about the kid's size and development so far? Feaster talks too much!!!"

If Feaster doesn't sign the kid: CP reacts with overwhelming negativity. "Well, looks like the Flames are happy to sit by idly while other GMs pro-actively look around at other avenues to improve the team. This organization is going no where under Feaster!!"

Skinny guy at only 200 pounds and 6'8"

That is really all I can add to this thread. Based on his stats and size, I wouldn't mind the Flames making a pitch.

Go after Greg Miller from Cornell. Stud center in all areas and reminds me a lot of Andy MacDonald when he was with Colgate. Flying under the radar because he isn't a pretty skater but gets around fine.

Sign him. He's the best we can get right now.
Put him on the PP. He's got so much potential.
Bench him. Even though he actually did surprisingly well on special teams.
Waive him. He's being benched, he's obviously not in the plans moving forward.
Use newfound roster space for new kid.

Like sands through the hourglass, these are the days on CP...

He's around 225lbs if I'm not mistaken.
