I wonder what the City of Abbotsford is paying to break the deal with the Flames. They are losing a lot of money with the Heat, and presumably would make a lot with the Canucks affiliate. They should have to pay significantly

Also, the Peoria Rivermen franchise being in play makes sense. When Stillman purchased the Blues, he also purchased a bunch of other 'assets' that Dave Checketts owned, including an opera house and the Peoria Rivermen. Stillman has been tightening the purse strings, so it makes sense for him to dump non-core assets like the AHL franchise

Meh. Until a statement is released by the Flames or Canucks this doesn't hold much water with me. I checked the Twit's website and can't find any blog or article quoting any sources, and in fact there isn't much recent content on that site at all.

AHL president Dave Andrews has said the league will work to create a far west division in the near future.

this point is interesting, because when the Flames moved the AHL team to Abbotsford, Andrews said something to the effect of it being a pilot project to test western North America expansion or relocation. Having a west coast team an hour away would make even more sense if there were more teams in the area to cut travel costs

Put the Flames farm team in Fort McMurray and they can play the Abbotsford Divers-to-be 20 times a season.

But really, I guess Salt Lake City is probably better for the Flames in terms of existing connections to other NHL markets.

Abbotsford is essentially a suburb of Vancouver, they are all Canucks.

That's not relevant. There is absolutely no way the AHL, or more importantly the city of Utica, would go along with a mob associated name.
