Flames Flames sign Ben Hanowski (2 years, two-way ELC, AAV 900k)

Quote:
Hanowski, who completed his four-year career with the St. Cloud State hockey team on Thursday, signed a two-year, two-way contract with the Calgary Flames on Friday morning that includes a $90,000 signing bonus.

The two-way deal means that he’ll play for the Flames or be assigned to their American Hockey League affiliate in Abbotsford, British Columbia, and play minor league hockey.

“It’s your standard entry-level deal,” said Hanowski, whose agent is Dean Grill of O2K Worldwide Management Group. “It’s a really good deal for me. It shows the interest that the Calgary Flames have in me, and that’s exciting for me.”

“It was a pretty easy process,” Hanowski said of the signing. “It’s definitely exciting for me and my career. Every kid dreams of playing in the NHL and this contract, hopefully, is a step in the right direction to fulfill my dreams.

Well, I'll be the first to ask it. Can he play to end the season here?

I think he's got more of a chance here now than he did with Boston. Boston's got way too many prospects that are higher on the depth chart than he was.

Pittsburgh.

Getting him signed just one day after his college career ends is a good thing, I'd suppose.

Now, maggot... put aside your on-ice abilities and do your job as a Calgary Flame by convincing your college buddy Drew to sign with us. Bribe him if you have to.

Glad they signed him, would have looked really bad if he walked away as a UFA after being in the Iginla deal.

Who is the next one to sign? Ramage hopefully.

I do wonder if they'll give him a game this year assuming the contract kicks in this year. Part of me thinks it would be a bad idea... some fans would be expecting too much for a guy who's a mid-level prospect just because he was dealt for Iginla.

Am I wrong for being more excited about Agostino?

Either way, I'm glad Hanowski signed.

If he plays a pro game this year i believe it will burn a year of his contract unless he signs an ATO/PTO with the Heat.

He is too old for the sliding rule IIRC.

in terms of offense, you're right. In terms of leadership and character, Hanowski seems to be a great guy too though. I doubt he'll amount to more than a bottom six player though, but I guess we'll have to wait and see how his game translates to pro.

Agostino does look like a better prospect, but Hanowski has that potential 'fan favourite' vibe to him.

I assume he's going to Abbotsford?

So much for Glen Healy going on about how one of the no names from the Iginla deal is going to be a UFA and sign elsewhere anyway.

Glad to see that he signed with the Flames. The media would have you believe that there isn't a player on the planet who would ever dare sign with the Flames.

He becomes a UFA in 5 years anyway though, at 27? He'll be 27 before he can possibly play 7 years anyways, so there should be no harm in letting him play this year? Or am I wrong?
