Default South Dakota Governor Signs Law Allowing Teachers To Be Armed In Classrooms

Quote:
Gov. Dennis Daugaard of South Dakota on Friday signed into law a bill that would allow teachers to carry guns in the classroom.

While some other states have provisions in their gun laws that make it possible for teachers to be armed, South Dakota is believed to be the first state to pass a law that specifically allows teachers to carry firearms.

About two dozen states have proposed similar bills since the shootings in December at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., but all of them have stalled.
Supporters say that the measure signed by Mr. Daugaard, a Republican, is important in a rural state like South Dakota, where some schools are many miles away from emergency responders.

Opponents, which have included the state school board association and teachers association, say this is a rushed measure that does not make schools safer.

Well at least the school board is all for it (no they're not) and the teachers are all for it (no they're not)...so basically this is just a bunch of gun nuts who want this to happen, and once again what the crazy people with the guns want, the crazy people with the guns get. Eagerly awaiting the children can carry guns bill that seems more and more inevitable.

Kids will next be allowed to carry ammo and clips, to toss to the teacher while she's firing her M4A1 out the kindergarten door.

If you're to go down the insanity / lunacy route, at least make it a team effort.

I wonder who the first kid to be shot by a teacher will be, and why.

That, or who the first kid will be to shoot another kid or a teacher with a gun that a teacher brings to school.

That will show them Maine:

Quote:
Residents of Byron, Maine, are expected to pass a measure making gun ownership mandatory in the town.

Byron, population 140, is considering the idea at its next town meeting Monday. Town politicians argued that just about every household has at least one gun already.

Wow, South Dakota now officially has the safest schools in America.

That's how it works right?

Three stage bet countdown

1) Teacher snaps pulls out his glock and blazes away
2) Teacher taking a nap during an exam, reaches down to scratch his sack and accidentally blows his hand off
3) gunman enters the school to kill, teacher blazes away and kills 8 students and misses the gunman. School is sued for a billion dollars.

I can see lots of teachers finding other lines of work or relocating to other states because of this. How many teachers are comfortable carring loaded guns while on the job? I sure wouldn't be. However, I may have been a more behaved student had the teachers been armed at my high school.

There is an added responsibility if you are carrying a loaded weapon. First of all, safety, especially around children. Also, the added responsibility of some jack ass student trying to take it from me. Plus I think the kids will view you differently if you are armed versus not armed. Also, if my job required me to be armed, for my personal safety, and I'm not in a war zone or a policeman. I don't think I want the job.
