I trade the main players that have been mentioned in other threads unless they are 3 points up on 9th.

Unless this team FIRMLY HOLDS a playoff position at the deadline, I'd trade key components as bidding wars heat up. Iginla, Kiprusoff, Giordano and Tanguay would all be on the table.
...if the flames are in this position at the trade deadline and don't make trades geared towards making the team better "tomorrow", I'll likely lose my mind and be placed in some sort of cushioned cell. It can't happen again. They can't stand still at the deadline again, it would prove them to be the most incompetent management team in the league.

I would deal Iginla at the deadline and see where we stand after that one move. I would probably try to sign him around 4.5 mill in the off season if he would go for something like that.

Just like they should have done the past two deadlines I would make any move I could to help with the future and a complete rebuild.
The team in both the standings and in its play looks like a non-play-off team. There is nothing so far this year to indicate that they should or could make the play-offs and certainly nothing to indicate that they could go on a miracle run like they seem to think can happen if you make the play-offs.

if not in a playoff position (even if 9th by one point)
move iginla (if hes not signed) to the team offering the best package. (expect a 1st + decent prospect)
move cammellari for a 2nd
potentially move bouw/gio if theres a huge offer (1st 2013 + 2nd 2014 + prospect)
try to move one of butler/sarich/babchuk for a lower pick
kiprusoff isn't going anywhere till at least the off season.

I would agree with most of this thread. If the team isn't in the playoffs, make the difficult moves that need to be made.

I want a rebuild. Time to let the older players leave Calgary.
What I think will happen is a minor move, and Feaster saying that he's stuck between trading away a future asset and competing this year.

Priorities in addition to what has been mentioned:
Make room for Baertschi in top six - bye bye Cammy, preferably for grit
Re-sign MacDonald to be Ramo's backup next year
Move out our 4th line by trade and/or demotion. Trade prospects that don't have future with organization for picks/bubble 4th liners from other teams on expiring contracts and give them an audition for next year

Last season I wish we traded Giordano...I don't think his value is high enough right now, but you never know.
I'd also trade Cory Sarich to someone looking for a Dman for a run.
If we stood still I'd be ok with that too...although I'd prefer an Iginla extension in place.
Finally for the rebuild crowd...what time frame are you guys looking at? I mean if someone tells me 5yrs I assume that means 8-10yrs. Personally I'd rather try to improve our scouting/drafting philosophy than accumulate a bunch of 1st round picks lotto style since it seems to take FOREVER to even get back to the playoffs with that strategy.

It would be tough to be GM of Calgary right now. I'm not really sure where you'd even start, even given carte blanche from ownership and the green light to go all the way to the cap.
It really does not feel like Calgary has a coherent plan in place. It does not feel like the team has an identity. It feels like the immediate future is bleak, sadly.
Tonight at the dome, as fun as it was, I looked up to the roof and saw that since 94-95 we have 2 banners... the Western championship in 2004 and a divisional win. It's a little depressing, to say the least.

I'd trade Iginla now so that we can see who we get for him and how the team responds over the next 20 games then if we are in the hunt hold tight but if we tank after the trade then move more vets.

Also Flames hopefully have two solid 1st round picks in the net two years...after that Id start offer sheeting any potential big name RFAs on the Oilers.

If they are out of the playoffs with no moves made I really don't know what kind of kool aid management is drinking. I think you gotta trade whoever you can for the best kind of return.

Depends where we are at. I think we need to be at minimum 5 points up on 9th for me to be comfortable enough to not sell.
I'd basically evaluate who's bringing value and what you could get for them in a trade. Maximize the return. If Bouwmeester will bring a 1st + top D prospect and another player and Giordano will only get you a 2nd rounder and a B prospect like Max Reinhart then you look at moving J-Bo. Similar evaluations on Cammalleri, Iginla, Tanguay, etc.
Also, if Stajan plays well, we might actually be able to get something for him. If so, pull that trigger.
