Hartley Fired Up About our Goalies Getting Destroyed
Too bad his team couldn't care less, even after our Franchise player was injured the same way.
Our pp unit should have been Jackman-Aliu-Begin after that Zuker penalty.
Your 2013 Calgary FLAAAMESSSSSSSS!
"That’s something I hope the (National Hockey League) is going to be looking at," Hartley said shortly after his team — powered by MacDonald’s netminding and Matt Stajan’s two goals — dumped the Minnesota Wild 3-1 on Saturday night. "Not from a standpoint of (only) Joey MacDonald ... but for goalies, the blue paint is almost like toll booths right now. Players come in and they just drive those nets. There’s already been a few goalies getting injured because of contact. (First-string Calgary goalie Miikka Kiprusoff) is one of them. So I think that has to stop. Maybe a two-minute penalty is just not enough." Wednesday, it had been Trevor Lewis, of the Los Angeles Kings, who thumped MacDonald back into his net — basically straight on. Saturday, it was Jason Zucker, who, taking a shortcut through MacDonald’s crease, had knocked out the right leg of the netminder.

They really do need someone to protect the goalie and play a third line type of role IMO. This team is small and they are soft.

At that moment in the game retaliation would have been dumb. The two points were a bigger priority

Well it sounds like he's not directing his comments towards his players at all. I'm sure he understood the game situation last night in regards to a physical response.
No, I think he's just bringing attention to it because it's happened in back to back games and if it happens again tonight I'm sure he'll be campaigning for a major penalty/match penalty-intent to injure.
I think the team had a better physical game last night, but it could still be better in that regard. He asked them to respond and they did, but I'm sure it wasn't enough and they all know that.
We'll see what happens against a bigger Phoenix team today.

I'm glad they didn't react stupidly and selfishly in a 2-1 game with about 7 minutes left. I'll take the pp in that position every single time.
Against L.A I agree something should have been done.

Hrudey covered this pretty well in the broadcast. Retaliating at that moment in the game would have been stupid. Take down the number of the perp and file it away for next game. We play the Wild a lot.

Perhaps there should more of a penalty. I didn't think the one yesterday was so bad so 2 minutes was fine.
The LA one was worse, maybe there should be a 4 minute version.

Completely agreed. If it had been a different situation I would have liked to see one of Aliu/Jackman on the ice for the powerplay and just wait in front of the penalty box tapping on the glass every so often.

How about Brodie and Wideman at least going over to Zuker and give him a few f bombs or a glove to the face?
Besides it's not like there was a non call. With a roughing penalty it would have been 4 on 4 which we gave them anyways 20 seconds later.

Perhaps in the NHL today, winning is TOO important. So important that you can't risk protecting a teammate.
So the instigating penalties are too stupid.

So a little glove to the face is really going to make a guy think twice about running the goalie?

Ok. What if Macdonald sustained a knee injury there and couldn't finish the game?
But doing NOTHING is better? How many teams in the NHL would let that happen to their goalie with no instant payback? Maybe Minnesota...

NO glove to the face is going to increase the likelihood that it happens again next game.

In the context of what was happening in this game I would say all teams would have handled it the same...this is a huge overreaction

I have a hard time believing the Bruins or the Rangers or the Preds would just skate away after someone bowls over their goalie leaving him lying inside the net.
Well maybe the Canucks since they are used to Luongo pretending he is injured.
But this is the problem with our team. We are too easy to play against.

well Doans going to be a pain in the ass all game tonight standing in the blue paint.
I hope Gio takes exception or at the very least they dress SArich so our D makes a presence.
HArtley should tell Aliu to park his ass in front of teh net all game...things will surely get interesting from there.
