Default New Born Car Seats & Strollers

Looking for some info from new parents and which stroller/car seat system they would recommend.

We are looking at picking up the Britax Agile stroller (and the corresponding britax car seat).

however, it's tough to find a product in this category without glaring cons to every list of pros (the one we are looking at is considered by some as Not very agile when the baby seat is in place).

Not looking for these 800 buck strollers, (this britax combo comes in around 500), anyone have any strong opinions, one way or the other, for the stroller/seat they have?

We use the Baby Jogger City Select stroller with a Peg Perego Primo Viaggio SIP Car Seat and have been quite happy with it-- it ended up costing close to $1000 in the end but since you're posting on CP I'm assuming you're a 1%er so it shouldn't matter right? It seems to be a pretty popular stroller car sear combo out there as I've noticed lots of them in my travels.

We previously had one of those graco stroller car seat combos and it was junk which is why we replaced it.

We have a chicco key fit 30 car seat with matching stroller. The stroller is only good for places with a flat surface (malls etc). So we ended up buying a BOB as well which has been great for us! Not saying this is exactly what you should get, but this has been our experience so far.

Peg Perego car seat - or you're a bad parent.

In all seriousness though, they make a very good car seat - and probably the area to spend a bit more for quality.

As for stroller, we have a Baby Jogger City Mini GT. Very good stroller - light, agile, easy to fold and store. The only downside is that it's top heavy with the car seat attached for when the baby's young - on uneven ground it can tend to feel like it wants to tip.

The choice should be obvious. I mean, it's going to last you years and years, right?

My only recommendation would be to ensure you buy a stroller with larger than average wheel, larger wheels roll over stuff better..

That looks good to me.

The recommendation I give people is to buy the strollers with "real" wheels. Inflatable tires seem to roll better for a longer period of time.

You will need to get a small bike pump to keep them topped up but it will work better than those cheap plastic wheels.

This ^^^ and the 3 wheel ones seem to be much easier to navigate with.

If you can, I'd suggest taking the ones you are considering for a spin around the store, and load them up with weight (fill the basket, put heavy toys in the seat area, and push it around) you'll be able to tell if it is a good stroller.

We bought an Eddie bauer system, had the plastic wheels and all were the double small (x4) and we had issues making turns, over rough ground etc.

When our second born was a toddler, we decided to try a 3 wheel one, just a cheaper one from wal-mart, and it was much easier to push around.

Also, make sure you have lots of cup holders too ;-)

We have a Bugaboo Frog that I bought off a friend second hand - I do like it but if I had to go buy another one brand new, I'd look at the UppaBaby Vistas - they seem to be compact-ish and have nice storage - the storage on ours is a bit of a PITA. Check out kijiji - there are some very decent strollers out there for a good price.

As for car seats, it really doesn't matter which one you buy - if you want one to go in the stroller, you'll buy a bucket and they're all fine. No matter which bucket you buy, it'll be a PITA to carry once the kid hits around 15 lbs. My daughter outgrew the height limit on the bucket before the weight limit at 11 months (actually she's still not at the weight limit three months later) and so we moved her from the bucket to a rear facing Britax that stays in the car. Those seats can be used for infants as well if you don't want a bucket seat.
