I wasn't going to do this but since this occasion will most likely never come up again I have decided to at least let CP know about this contest.

I have been chosen as one of five finalists in the 2013 edition of Avenue Magazines Design Competition. My entry is the Barbo Lamp.

This contest wraps up on Thursday the 21st and a grand winner will be picked by Avenues judges. There is also a peoples choice award and that is where the CP faithful can take this into their own hands.

Unfortunately this is not an internet popularity contest it is a in person popularity contest. In order to vote you must head into BoConcept furniture (701 11 Ave SW) and place your vote. The winner will receive....a lamp - which is kind of ridiculous considering that three of the five entries are lamps/chandeliers - and also bragging rights.

The ask - if you are in the area before Thursday the 21st stop in a check out the entries, there are some great designs. Place your vote on what piece you like and if you choose #4 I would be grateful!

No disrespect to the other 4 artists in the contest, but your lamp is far and away a better design and execution than any of them.

I appreciate your statement but there are some designs in that group that I am very impressed with, the concrete chandelier specifically. It is very innovative.

I think I will hang onto this one for nostalgia but will most likely be building some more in the near future. I plan to weak the design slightly for a more sleeker look and potentially offer some larger sizes and perhaps explore some stone accents as well as the barn board.

Definitely an accent piece, enough to read beside but it wouldn't be the best choice for open heart surgery. My next editions I will switch to LED lights for a brighter resonance. I am not sure if the photos show it or not but the top is also a window which provides a cool up light effect. I will post another couple of photos of it tonight when I get home.

That top window is held on with magnets so I can get inside to change the light bulbs if needed.

Just got home and wanted to let you know that I was not selected as a winner. Congrats to Chloe Leung who designed Kontort, the teppenyaki hibachi grill. Even though I did not "win" I still consider this a huge personal accomplishment. I guess I will have to raise the bar for next year!
