[Rumour] Flames interested in Arnott

Just got back from lunch with a friend with deep Flames connections.

They want a big, natural centreman and Arnott fits the bill in more ways than one, but the team brass are concerned about his knee and overall fitness. The fact that the Rangers deal was nullified because of those same concerns is a factor in the decision-making process.

However a certain Calgary assistant coach knows Arnott very well and has been suggesting that the Flames look at giving him a shot. The only question is how quickly could he get into game shape/speed? Insuring the contract is also an issue so the Flames will potentially look at a lower salary range than what the Rangers were offering, somewhere in the range of $1.0-$1.2 million (pro-rated). Other teams are also looking at Arnott as a potential band-aid for C-depth problems.

Take it with a grain of salt but I just got this info and wouldn't have posted it if I didn't trust the source. Thought that it was worthy of discussion.

Flames are desperate for help down the middle so Arnott would fit well. That said, I don't know why he would want to go anywhere but a contender.

I don't disagree with that. But I guess if your options are limited and only the Flames are offering a contract then it's either that or your career is done.

Arnott is not the Answer. We would be better served going after Gaustad if we wanted a big body up the middle who can win draws. A nice Big, slow man up the middle with soft hands... Sounds just as.. "sexually confused" as the OP's suggestion the flames are considering Arnott. No offence OP.
