Default "push present" & Valentines

Need some advice from the fine folks here at CP.

Wife is about 8 months pregnant with our first child. Now, i'm not sure if i'm big on this whole "push present" idea, but would be nice to get her something on that note for our last valentines before being fulltime parents.

I am taking her out for a nice dinner naturally, but looking for ideas on a gift.

Can't be overly expensive, as the budget has taken a hit in baby prep (setting up the baby room, baby furniture, new vehicle, etc), but looking for a nice gesture.

Any ideas?

I got my wife a charm necklace from Stella and Dot (http://shop.stelladot.com/style/b2c_...op/charms.html). If you have a name picked out you can get her the first initial of your child and also the birth stone. You won't get it in time for the 14th but it is a thoughtful gift nonetheless. Congrats and best of luck on the delivery. You will have a new found respect for all mothers.

The vibe I get from their Valentines Day ad this year makes me feel like I'm obligated to buy some sort of jewelry, which in turn makes me not want to buy anything at all.

A prenatal massage.
This is where I went: http://www.centremassage.com/pricespolicies.html
Best present from my husband when I was preggers! (besides the trip to Hawaii....)

- A nice diaper bag that she can carry that doesn't make her feel like a frumpy Mom
- A gift certificate for family photos when the baby is born
- Nothing that she has to make (ie. those crafts where you make the baby's hand or footprints)
- Organize her friends to make her casseroles for the freezer (call 5 or so of them up, as them to make a casserole and just write her a note of encouragement, then you can pass the notes on to her and let her know the freezer is stocked)
- a pre-natal massage or pedicure
- a case of non-alcoholic beer (maybe that's just me that would like that one)
- A nice bottle of wine or champagne to save for the two of you to share when the time comes, with a nice note that says you appreciate what she is going through.

Really, pregnant women like to know that you understand that you can't possibly understand what they are feeling through pregnancy (especially that last stretch) and labour. Anything you can do to express that will make her appreciate the effort you are making.
Oh - and read a book. Even skim it. Just to show you tried.

Good call on the nice diaper bag. Mat and Nat have a nice one if you can find them.
I preferred the non-alcoholic coolers.

Something to help her feel pretty..whatever that is for her. Most women I know (my wife included) hate the way the feel/look for the last month or so of the pregnancy and the first couple months of being a new mom. A good combination of pretty things and time to feel pretty (spa etc) has been a good fit for me.

congrats in advance!

Haha - I thought the same thing when I read the post about the perineum massage.
Never thought of non-alcoholic coolers - might have to try those too!

Also - Coach has really nice diaper bags that are really functional - if you can go on the right day, youc an get an additional 30% off - so you would spend about $150, do depends on your budget - but I know that I love mine, it has been fantastic and I will use it een after the kids get older as a beach bag or carry-on when travelling, etc.

If I am ever in the position to buy an engagement ring, I will never, ever under any circumstance buy from Spence Diamonds. In fact I will go in there, waste a bunch of someones time, then go away, and spend 20 grand somewhere else. Come into the store with the invoice from the competitor, and scream WOOOOOO! with a grating piercing voice.

I don't HATE many people. But I hate you Sean Jones. Do you hear me. I. HATE. YOU. and your terrible, grating, irritating, phoney, pontificating, advertisements. I hear you, and I want to claw the radio out of my dashboard with my bare hands.

It is funny because after some time googling this topic today, i found a board where half the responses were from women and 2/3s of them were given tummy tuck and boob job (lift) as a "push present".

I found that a wee-bit ridiculous but these women seemed happy about it..

I think i'm going to get a D-SLR (wife has wanted one as she loves taking cool pics, and it's something we want to capture the little one). Just hard to justify $600 right now. I'm sort of kicking myself. I got my wife a new car, the 'baby mobile'. i shoulda just put a bow on it!

My suggestions requires you to take a journey, if you are man enough.

Step 1 - get a box
Step 2 - cut a hole in the box

I'd spend the money on things for the kid...that would be a way better investment then a camera. $600 buys an awful lot of diapers

Also known as the jhunt push present.

Dang. I did it all wrong. I was supposed to ask for a push present? Mind you, all 3 of mine were c-sections. What does one call those? Post-op presents? I guess this means the hubs has some present catch up to get on with....

I'm glad my wife had never heard of/requested a Push Present. I consider the baby to be the gift at the end of the rainbow.
