Ray Ferraro's 2014 Olympic Picks
With the Olympics a year away, Ferraro just announced his picks for Team Canada in 2014. Huge shock, no Flames make the cut. I would like Iggy to make the team in sort of a Niedermayer role, but only if he's playing well enough to justify his selection.
Here's the link: http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=415401
Lineup:
E. Staal, Crosby, Perry
Nash, Giroux, Stamkos
Tavares, Toews, Seguin
Richards, J. Staal, Eberle
Sharp, Benn
Keith, Doughty
Weber, Letang
Girardi, Pietrangelo
M. Staal, Coburn
Price, Ward, Fleury

That 3rd line could end up being the best of the bunch.

That goaltending scares the bejeezus out of me.
Ward and Fleury are borderline awful lately.
Price is looking better and better mind you, but when he goes off the rails, he really goes off the rails.
Anyone else thinking that Brodeur still wants to get in on the Olympics? He signed another two year deal and will still be playing NHL hockey when the Sochi Olympics start.
...and as much as we like to make fun of him, Luongo was the starting goalie when we won Gold in Vancouver.
Luongo, Price, ????

I'd rather have Getzlaf over Sharp, J Staal and maybe Seguin

But then you won't have all three Staal brothers on the team. You gotta think about the storyline!

I'd feel comfortable with Mike Smith as the 3rd option.

How bout two Sharks? Marleau? and Vlasic? I've always like him
Goaltending is really weak. Might have to be Luongo again.

People can rip on Luongo all they want, but he should absolutely be on that team.
If Bouwmeester keeps playing the way he has to start the season, he will get a long look, especially on bigger ice.
And Getzlaf and Perry will definitely be on the team.

I'll be surprised if Iginla doesn't make the team.

I know it'll never happen, just based on the pedigree of the pool of talent that Team Canada has to pick from, but Wideman in the two seasons since the last Olympics has finished 10th, and then 5th among Canadian defensemen in scoring. He's in 6th so far this year as well.
Like I said though, no chance of him getting considered IMO.

I would love to see Iginla on the team but Canada is so deep on forward for this tournament I could see him left back. The one thing in his favor is there doesn't seem to be another "old vet" to fill that role so perhaps they do take him but with all the talent Canada has up front and plenty of leadership in the youth it could be a tough go for Iginla to make the team.

Exactly. With Yzerman as the GM, there is a chance that he gets a spot as the vet, but it's pretty unlikely, IMO

Also would be nice to see Eberle nowhere near this team but he has so much BS built up around him I am sure they will take him on his BS rep alone.

##### the storyline!
I'm so sick of the overplayed mellowdramatic bylines and undercurrents of every joe lunchpail hockey player that grew up learning and loving the game in butt#####, nowhere.
Sometimes, I just want to watch a hockey game, and that's it, OK media? Please?

Irving should be ready to take over by then. No worries in goal.

The good news is that the media isn't picking the team. The bad news is Lowe might ruffie Yzerman right before the final roster has to be submitted.
