Default Best off season move to date?

Just wondering now that were almost 25% through the season, what you think the best thing the organization did in all the time leading up to the start.

My pic goes to the Wideman signing. He has been a great additon and added something the Flames were missing?

Lots to choose from. Cervenka? Hudler? Sven making the team? Or hos about Hartly and the way he seems to have reenergized some of the personnel such as Bouw and Tanguay?

Thoughs?

So far, the signing of Wideman. It's solidified our D and has allowed Bouwmeester to play less minutes. Not to mention that Wideman is awesome on the PP!

Wideman has been huge, and clearly being missed in Washington. Hudler and Cervenka were great additions as well though. Just great to see some skill and talent playing here this year year instead of a bunch of grinders and Tanguay.

All made even better by the fact everyone around the league were calling the Wideman signing horrible at the time and even giving the Flames a hard time about the Hudler signing. They were pieces the Flames needed and Feaster was smart enough to go out and get the guys he thought best suited the team needs. Great job on his part!

Hudler, and looking outside of the box for Cervenka are huge off season moves. Feaster deserves allot of credit for these two moves.

Toss up between Hudler, with his creativity and skill and Wideman with his vision on the PP.

Both add an element we have really been missing for a long time.

Not trading Bouwmeester.

I'll also say coaching change. Seems like we are finally seeing the way this team was meant to play.

Hartley for sure

Wideman and Hudler both were great moves.

This off-season was about as perfect as you can get for the Flames
Hartley, Hudler, Cervenka, Wideman, Street (for Heat), re-signing Stempniak, Backlund, Sarich. All of them have been key to success thus far.

The only black mark is re-signing Comeau. Even then it magically turned good because he wanted a 1 year contract instead of 2.

I dont think we could have improved our team more in the off season than we did this past year. If you accept the restraint of rebuilding while icing a borderline playoff team than feaster couldnt have done a better job.

Drafted high risk high upside player
Acquired second tier free agents in area of needs
Got Cervenka without giving up any assets.
Brought in a coach to make us more entertaining to watch. (Probably better to but being a watchable hockey club is huge for me )

So its not one move... its all of them. All ofv the moves he made last season have worked so far. The big caveat is we are lesd than 10 games in and only have a 500 record but things look good

If this is evidence of a new MO for the flames and an improved ability to evaluate talent this bodes well for the future. A couple more off seasons like this coupled with some good drafts and reload is complete.

Hartley. His attitude and ability to focus on the positives is the complete opposite of Sutter, and has gotten this team to buy into his system. He also seems to be putting players in positions to succeed.

Wideman, unless you count the new coaches.

As to black marks, re-signing Sarich 2 years and 4 million instead of Hannan for the 1 million Nashville offered him. Sarich can't keep his spot over Butler and Smith, while Hannan is a top 4 D-man in a propable playoff team. Ouch.

I would say Hartley too, he has finally got this team playing .500 hockey which should allow us to get a better draft pick in the upcoming draft.

Hudler would be a close second. The guy is the smartest hockey player to play on this team in a long long time. And he is a winner who knows what it takes to win, which hopefully can rub off on our other players. It has been awhile since we had a pure winner on our team.

I've got a bit of a hangover but can you explain what this means?

And also better if you consider that some people said it was the comparable contract that Garrison used to determine his asking price.
