Default The death of the penny

http://cnews.canoe.ca/CNEWS/Politics.../19567551.html

"The government said it costs 1.6 cents to produce a penny, so by fall, it will stop issuing the coins in order to save $11 million a year."

“We will eliminate the penny,” said Finance Minister Jim Flaherty. “Pennies take up too much space on our dressers at home. They take up for too much time for small businesses trying to grow and create jobs.”

Everything rounded to the nickel!

Im so glad this is happening. Pennies are such a waste. I wish they would take it one step further and eliminate anything less than a quarter.

Works for me...always hated having something so worthless take up space in my change jar at home.

Get rid of the nickle and dimes too. Quarters, loonies, and toonies are the only useful coins.

They should've gone straight to the dime. Just round everything to one less decimal place.

Came in for the puns, left satisfied

Nickle pincher just doesn't have the same ring to it though...

This whole change was orchestrated by Big Candy and Big Casino. Big Candy gets a 500% increase on penny candy, and Big Casino can now eliminate the penny slot.

Eliminate nickels and dimes? So, you would enjoy having prices rounded to the nearest 25 cents? You must really enjoy strategic pricing aimed at the business making up to 13 cents extra on every purchase.

Oh for the love of god

I'm behind the removal of the penny (and probably everything up to the loonie tbh) but is Flaherty trying to sound like a cliche here?

I hate dimes almost as much as I hate pennies. Their size to value ratio is completely skewed.

Better late than never...it'll be nice to see them gone. Guess I'll now have to give my kids a nickel when they clean their rooms, though.
