Thumbs up Official 2012 Seattle Seahawks Thread

2012 SEAHAWKS OPPONENTS DETERMINED

Home: Arizona Cardinals, San Francisco 49ers, St. Louis Rams, Green Bay Packers, Minnesota Vikings, Dallas Cowboys, New England Patriots, New York Jets

Away: Arizona Cardinals, San Francisco 49ers, St. Louis Rams, Chicago Bears, Detroit Lions, Carolina Panthers, Buffalo Bills, Miami Dolphins

I can see a realistic 11-5 record coming out of this schedule: Home wins against AZ, SF, StL, Minn, Dal, & NYJ; Road wins over AZ, StL, Chi, Car, & Mia. Looking forward to a return to the playoffs and another possible division championship!

Thats strange, I thought that when the nfl makes its schedule, that the home and away games alternated between compulsary intra dividual matches. i.e. If every 4 years the NFC West plays the AFC East, then I thought the home and away amtches would alternate. But the Jets played in Seattle 2008. So I Thought that Seattle would go to New York in 2012.

As a Jets fan, this suits me just fine, I just wasnt expecting to see them in Seattle until 2016.

Hopefully they dont play near Christmas and get me snowed in at SEATAC again.

I think I read somewhere that the rotations for both the NFC and AFC West were switched up in order to reduce travel a little. I think some teams were travelling to both Seattle and San Francisico in the same year, while their divisional opponents travelled to Phoenix and St. Louis, which would be significantly shorter for eastern based teams.

I would like to see how the team looks before I do that for any team. I'll be happy to give you a prediction in August.

The thing this year was that they had a first place schedule and did better than average against those teams, beatingthe Giants and Ravens and taking ATL and then SF to the wire both times. The problem was losses to CLE and WSH and CIN to a lesser extent.

The defense and ST were good, so in theory, with a 3rd place sked, they should do better based on that, and winning some of those tight games they lost before Jackson started looking comfy.

But the offense is the question mark that has to improve. Lynch and his contract and getting dependable receivers are important, but the QB issue is going to shape this team. No way are they going with Jackson going into his second and final year of his contract. They either commit longer term to him or make a move in another direction, again, longer term. Carroll has done a good job in his two years, but to take that next step, the offense has to be in sync for 16 games, not 8 or 9.

That said, I dismissed the early Manning talk but Sea has plenty of cap room to take that gamble and Jackson as a capable fallback. Not likely to happen but not out of the realm if you have a chance to get him on a lower risk contract, or even a higher one. Players like that don't come along that often, and with the QB situation in flux as mentioned, Seattle has that going for it which other teams don't.

I am sure that soon after the draft the Manning situation and, no matter how that goes, the QB situation will be clearer for Seattle, and that will be the pint predictions can be started.

How the new Seahawks uniforms could look

Personally, I hope the Seahawks uniform stays as it is, but I am not overly optimistic it will.

Congrats to Cortez Kennedy, getting in the HoF today. Played entire career in Seattle, during the dark days of the franchise, but was a 8 time Probowler and was Defensive Player of the Year in the NFL in 1992..when Seattle won 2 games.

On the day his best friend and mentor at the "U" (where Kennedy lasted 2 plays his first training camp, being so out of shape, and fought a lot of odds to get to the NFL in the first place) Jerome Brown would've turned 47, if he didn't crash his car in that same year that Kennedy got the Defensive player in the year in 1992. Kennedy changed his number to Brown's 99 for the rest of his career. His agent also died in the plane tragedy that killed Payne Stewart.

No franchise tag for Marshawn Lynch, he signs a 4 year deal worth 31 million, 18 of it guaranteed.

Reasonable contract, 6 years to the day that Alexander signed for 8 years and 62m, exactly double. Different player, different times.

Lynch evolved into a difference maker last year, the CLE game especially where they really missed him and lost a stinker. If they can get a good change of pace back (bye Forsett) and continue to upgrade the line, the offense will continue to improve.

As a pass rusher on defense, and some old guy named Manning and they'll be really good to go.

Manning a good move for the Hawks or would their considerable cap space be better spent somewhere else?

Schnedier and Carroll have done a good job of revamping and finding solid players on the cheap. I expect that to continue.

Needs as I see them are something of a pass rush, or rusher, maybe an upgrade at LB (although the guys there are all solid unspectacular players), continued improvement on the O line, a back to compliment Lynch, and a playmaker on offense. That last one is a tough one, as that largely depends on the QB to get him the ball (outside of having a WR a guy like Fitzgerald).

So most of those needs, in order to become better, aren't the big money type positions. Talk of Mario Williams as the rusher maybe but outside of that, not a lot of big money to be thrown out there. A #12 draft pick should be a solid player to fill one of those gaps. But with the secondardy set, two TE's (although Carlson is a FA after not playing a regular season game last year), good special teams. Ok recievers, with the hope that Rice is finally healthy, and that Williams can smarten up and pick up, there isn't a huge gap to fill.

But as said in another thread, SEA' QB situation is average. Taking a risk on Manning this year and for 1 or 2 more is not going to hold back the current QB situation at all. Jackson is capable and passable and will be a good backup, and in addition to being relegated to a backup role for a star QB before. The Seahawks are in a unique situation, where there is not a lot of money committed to the QB position, or is getting Manning taking away reps from an up and comer. Its also not a dire situation, if he doesn't pick Seattle, things will progress on with Jackson and a backup as was the 2 year plan started last year, with probably an eye to Barkley next year.

But a Peyton Manning impact player comes around very rarely...you have to take his injury into consideration sure, as a big risk on a contract that's going to be a lot of guaranteed money even if he plays no snaps, and a lot more money if he ends up playing out the whole contract and makes the playoffs with all the incentives that will be in there....but the Seahawks have little to lose out of all of this, whether they land him or not. Money isn't going to be an issue, or cap space, and again, the QB hunt begins and ends at Manning this offseason so Jackson will have his right to win a new contract after this year if he's the Week 1 starter. Its a risk some other teams can't afford in some way shape or form.

Yep, I agree. Management have done great at finding good / very good players in a short period of time since Carroll has been there. Very quietly, the Hawks have built one of the better D's in the league. Still a bunch of missing pieces and upgrades required but they are progressing instead of regressing for a change. I love the huge cornerback philosophy. Browner will get better. Towards the end of the year he seemed to be understanding that you can't maul guys like you can in the CFL. A few fortunate INT's and before ya know it the guy's in the Pro Bowl.

I, too, think they should take a run at Manning. Although it looks like Arizona and Miami appear to be generating the most pundit chatter, the Hawks could throw some serious base salary plus a whack of incentives at him. I can't think of the last Superbowl team that won without an elite QB and that for sure isn't TJ - at least not from what we've seen so far. If not us, then I pray its not Arizona. SF will be tough enough Division Title wise.
