I played it a year ago or so.
It is decent but you do need to play a fair bit to build up points to upgrade your gear which allows you to hit further, more accurately etc.
The revenue model is you can buy credits for upgrades, plus the equipment you upgrade to are Nike or Adams or whatever so the company gets promotional fees.
Interestingly - if you "purchase" upgraded golf balls, they are a consumable like real ones. You buy a sleeve of something, if you put them in the water they are gone; purchase some more or go back to the basic golf ball.
