This isn't the first time Atari has gone out of business. They haven't done anything significant in a while.

To be honest, I didn't even know they were still in business.

Can’t access your link, so this could be in the story already, but CNN had this interesting tibit:

Quote:
The U.S. arm of Atari, the iconic video game company that created "Pong," filed for bankruptcy on Monday.
But Atari will live on. The move is aimed at breaking the American branch away from its unprofitable French parent company.
In particular, Atari U.S. is looking to "secure independent capital for future growth, primarily in the areas of digital and mobile games,"
Over the next three to four months, Atari U.S. will seek buyers for some of its assets, including the Atari logo and the company's games catalog. Atari as a whole owns or manages more than 200 games and franchises.

The brand still has some clout. I could see them make some good mobile/mini-games that could turn a profit based on their name recognition.

Wonder if this will increase the value of my 2600 and 40 or so games?

Probably not, they'll still probably sell their collectors packs.

Did the Atari 2600 E.T game finally kill the company?

I smell a CP raffle; like we did for the Golden Tee game a few years back.

Sell tickets for $20 each. If we can get 1000 people to buy tickets; that would allow us to offer $2 million!
Then take whatever money is leftover and buy me a math tutor!

Math may not be Ken's strong suit, but I bet he is great in bed.

Heheh, that's a great story for anyone who doesn't know it. Widely considered to be the worst video game ever.

And it's actually one of the ones in my collection!

My claim to fame was once trying to purposely let the spaceship capture Elliot at the ending. It picked him up, and he just ran in place perpetually while ET stood there.

I wonder how many hours of my life I had spent trying to time that right.
