Default Limited Number of Posts Per Day?

Hi everyone. I have noticed a few things since I joined; mainly that a few posters "overwhelm" threads with a tonne of posts.

What about limiting posters to 4-5 a day? That way what conversation there is, is thoughtful and in depth?

Otherwise all I see is posts by a few relatively new posters who make me close threads as they seem to have more time than everyone I know, combined, to make online forum posts. It basically makes debate threads boil down to who has less of a life outside the internets, which isn't IMHO the point of a forum!

Am I out to lunch? (probably)

So you're going to limit debate? Stifle discussion? That isn't the point of a forum.

I'm all for limiting posters who have just signed up for a certain time period so they don't go haywire.. but this is a horrible idea.

Terrible idea, and you're not fooling anyone, or at least not me.

The reason you don't post often under this account is because you mostly post under another CP name.

I'm 99% sure I know which one as well.

4-5 a day?! I'd meet my quota by 9AM every day!

I think it be interesting to try. But a limit in each thread would be better than in general site limit. By the time you have made 5 posts in a thread you should have been able to explain you opinion and challange the opinion of someone else. It would also make threads more managable to read. I definately see the drawbacks of stifling debate though.

The biggest problem is that you would lose epic threads like Springs1.

I don't think limiting the amount of posts is a very good idea.

However, some sort of "downranking" for individual posts (not posters) might be in order. Maybe set at a threshold of 25 or so. There is an awful lot of trolling on this site and I think if these posts got downranked to the point where they were hidden, then a lot of other people might be able to refrain from biting and triggering four pages of ensuing drama.

Kinda like what Google does with YouTube posts. If something ######ed gets enough "thumbs down" hits, the post gets collapsed from view. Of course, the option to expand the post would have to be included so MMF could get his fix on, but for most of us, we could just be blissfully ignorant of some of the stuff that really detracts from the enjoyment of this site.

The threshold would have to be quite high though. We don't want 5 or 6 people just going around hiding stuff they don't agree with, or targeting specific posters etc. On this site, a threshold of 25 should suffice.

On the bright side, the ability to downrate posts would allow us to hide FanIn80's autofellatio in the Apple threads.

What would happen IF you could downrate a post? I mean its not like they will be actual consequences.

Lots of forums limit new users to how many posts they can make until they have 50 in total.

I know XDA does that. Annoying as hell especially when you have a problem. But hey.

Why don't you just say everything you need to say under your other username, To Be Quite Honest?

Or did you make this account to complain without the consequences?
