LF: Quality Assurance Lead - Turnaround (Fort McMurray)
JOB OVERVIEW
The Lead Mechanical Quality Assurance Coordinator will report directly to the Base Business Projects Quality Assurance Manager. The successful candidate for this role will ensure all projects assigned, have a scalable and detailed quality plan contained within the project execution plan, and ensure it is performed and completed in accordance to applicable written standards, codes and procedures. The mandate for this role is to provide daily QA Services to the project in the engineering, procurement and construction phases.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES- Ensure all equipment and installations comply with applicable codes of construction including (ASME B31.1 and B31.3 for piping, ASME VIII Div. 1 for pressurized equipment), Suncor Energy Services Inc. Corporate Technical standards, Major Projects group guidelines, work instructions and specifications and, Alberta Boilers Safety Association (ABSA) PESR rules & regulations for Alberta provincial safety compliance
- Review Engineering Work Packages (EWP's) and Construction Work Packages (CWP's) through stages of submission by Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) consultants and, provide input via the use of CWP/ EWP review reports and Material Requisition review reports.
- Issue non-compliance reports (NCR's) and apply analytical and judgmental skills.
- Appoint third-party inspection for remote locations and monitor their progress and compliance.
- Attend Risk Review project meetings, construction progress meetings, Incident Learning and Prevention(ILP) reviews, Ready for Fabrication and Construction (RFFC) roll out, Hazard and Operability (HAZOP) and Field Level Hazard Assessment, Field Level Risk Assessments (FLHA-FLRA) reviews and audits.
- Review vendor suitability and qualifications
- Coordinate source surveillance inspectors assigned to conduct quality auditing on projects assigned
- Schedule and plan periodic audits of vendor shops to verify QA activities and conformance to quality requirements
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:- The preferred candidate will possess a technician or technologist degree related to the field of incumbency such as Quality Control, Welding, Mechanical, Metallurgical or Industrial Engineering.
- Be a member of or eligible for membership in ASET.
- Have 10 or more years of experience in a QA role, preferably within a upstream & down-steam petrochemical environment.
- Industry certifications are considered an asset: API, ABSA, NBIC, CWB, CGSB.
- Previous project management experience and project implementation experience via gate processes and EPC deliverables that involved QA input are assets
Skills and Knowledge:- Strong knowledge of applicable industrial codes and standards is a must.
- Electrical and Instrumentation, corrosion protection, civil-earthworks and testing, structural and building, infrastructural and plumbing backgrounds are considered to be assets however, knowledge of pressure equipment codes, API/NACE standards, NDE and pressure testing are necessary components/abilities.
- Able to work independently, handling multiple projects of competing priority and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Sound knowledge of computer skills, experience with Microsoft Office.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
