The pundit class had been stamping its collective feet with impatience, but Liberals responded with remarkable speed to the Conservative attack ads against Justin Trudeau. In a 30-second spot released Wednesday, Mr. Trudeau rebutted the Conservative accusation that the young new leader lacked the experience needed to become prime minister.
Agree or not with the message, and I'll honestly say I'm not sure, this is good for Canadian politics. While we have had brutal attack ads from the Cons and Libs in the past (most likely Bloc and probably NDP too), I like this approach. We don't want it to get as ugly or stupid as the races down south.

I do agree with the tone of the Liberal ad, but I believe it would have much more effect if the Cons were leading with a minority government. "Working together" is something the Tories no longer have to do with other parties.
Good ad! Can he maintain the positive image and will it benefit him? Glad to see that seems to be the direction he wants to take, but it certainly didn't work for others in the past.
^^The problem is he has no record to fall back on, indeed he looks like a spectator. I remember that they said Obama had no experience, the fact is he was a Senator before he was a president.
Right now you have to judge him by the Trudeau family record, and while that may have been good for Quebec it was not necessarily good for western Canada. I moved to Calgary from the east in the 90s and many said that the real estate bargains at the time in Calgary were courtesy of the Trudeau regime.
I think he would make an excellent Premier, but Prime Minister for all of Canada... As a Calgarian, yikes!
I'm not a big fan at all of the style over substance Prime Minister he would represent.
I am not either...he needs to come out with some policies. However, I think you will get a lot of style over substance because after all, he is the son of PET. Some of what his father was and stood for will have rubbed off on the son. At the same time, Justin has acknowledged that not all of PET's policies were good for Canada, and following in PET's footsteps, he has already taken swipes against the sovereignty movement in Quebec.
At the same time, I think his ad is good. Canadians are fed up with negative attack ads and the last set from the Conservatives have backfired.
I also don't agree with flamenspiel that Justin has no experience. This is his second term as MP representing Papineau. Many thought he would try to win his first seat in a by-election in the riding of Outremont. He ran in Papineau instead, a much harder riding to win, and he won. This last election, he increased his percentage of win by quite a substantial amount.
Make no mistake.....Justin is the man to beat in the next election unless he really screws up.

Whether it does is the million dollar question. In truth, this ad is little different than the Conservative ad. Both are trying to paint a picture of what Justin Trudeau and whether he is fit to lead this country. Trudeau, of course, will try to paint himself as good, and the Conservatives (and NDP) will try to paint him as bad. We'll see over time which narrative is adopted by the public.
