How can you not love this creative solution

According to a recent report, 23-year old Xiao Feng’s life came crashing around him when his father hired in-game assassins, or just terribly powerful players, to repeatedly hunt and kill his son’s characters across various Chinese role-playing games. Mr. Feng, who revealed that his son had also previously struggled in school due to his excessive gaming, was worried that his son was not looking for work because of his addiction and felt that getting him repeatedly killed in video games was the only solution.
Probably better then my solution of selling his computer and gaming stuff in exchange for fracking rent

Actually these video game addiction stories are way more common over there than in America.

No one said it. And I don't think it was coming. A forum of internet nerds and games for the most part, they'd know that.

Besides, this was a case of pretend violence. Not real violence.

Hey-yo!

Sure, I guess I just never really hear the comment "Only in America" when it comes to these hardcore gaming stories. They're almost always out of an Asian country and that's the stereotye that tends to go with these stories.

The "Only in America" thing goes along with gun related craziness, fat-related stories, and general nutcase stories.

......and when these stories come up, you can usually say "only in America", then look at where it happened and find that your were correct in guessing the location of said craziness.

I don't know, those are generally reserved for things America has a monopoly on, such as: Religious Zealotry, Obesity and Guns.

Pretty sure this is the opposite of an "only in america" story.

I don't know how people actually die from playing too much Starcraft so I guess I'm not surprised with this story.

Seriously, how do you not take care of yourself enough to DIE sitting in a chair.

I've wondered about this too. Now, I'm not one to cast stones, 'cause I've spent more than a couple hours playing WoW, Starcraft, and the like...but to neglect yourself so much that you die? I just don't get it.

I once played EQ for over 72 hours straight, and save a 25 min trip to DQ to stock up on 69cent hamburgers. I once at for almost 30 hours playing Might and Magic on a large bag of chips and a liter of Pepsi.

I could see a situation where something like that might not end well, especially in a case where someone is fanatic about it.

The dad's solution sounds like a great idea for the most part and it's a fairly passive way to push the kid to do something different. Though in some places it wouldn't work as well. At least that would be the case in some places in Japan with Hikkomori children.

Basically in Japan there are people who go into extreme cases of social withdraw (playing games, collecting things, etc) and get crazy violent when parents try to push them out of it. IIRC there were several parents last year who got killed when they tried to intervene in their socially reclusive children's lives and the kid went berserker killing the whole family as a result.

Would be hilarious if this group of video game toughs recruited the son into their team instead of hunting him down lol.

It's a fun story and a good idea actually. If you have the time and/or money.

I can't think of anything more frustrating than getting camped.
