No one is talking about Hope Solo's domestic violence case?
I'm curious as to peoples thoughts on this.
Many NFL players are getting arrested for domestic violence, and have been released from their clubs, dropped from sponsorship deals and become pariahs in the public eye (rightfully so I might add)
However, Hope Solo, star of the US women's national soccer team has not had the same treatment despite being charged with domestic abuse on multiple occasions. She's kept her sponsorship deal with Nike and was not suspended by her team, Seattle Reign.
I'm wondering why that is? Could it be simply because NFL players have a greater spotlight than women's soccer?

This is what U.S. soccer had to say in that article. So, she did something wrong but she's a good player trying to set a record, so we'll let it go.
First time I've heard of this case, and of course the NFL players are in the spotlight more because the NFL is a much higher profile league. It is wrong and inexcusable, she should not be playing.

The US national team played Mexico last night. Hope Solo wore the arm band.

It is ridiculous how US Soccer has no issue keeping her around with how hot of a topic domestic violence has been.

I agree with you, sorry if you read it differently.
You see all the time, that women can't be abusers, women can't commit rape.
It is vile.

The double standard is terrible but it is allowed for various reasons. Vilifying men draws more reaction and public discussion and outrage which is why attention is always focused on those cases.

I don't think you can "vilify" an individual that commits abuse, be it physical/mental or sexual.

It's not really as much about vilifying men or creating a double-standard, as it is recognizing that men commit these crimes at a much higher rate than women and trying to identify what aspects of a patriarchal society and gender-relations cause or enables men to commit them at a high rate.
This isn't to say that what Solo did and the response from U.S. Soccer isn't deplorable, but to complain of unjust persecution against men is pretty ridiculous.
Really, the only reason there has been such a massive public outcry over the NFL's handling of their various incidents is because of the brutal imagery contained in the Ray Rice videos.

What shocks me the most is that her sponsors havent pulled out. Thats a pretty bold stance to take.

Oh don't get me wrong, I think it's completely hypocritical of Nike to yank Peterson's sponsorship and not Solo's. And U.S. Soccer should be ashamed of themselves. I'm just saying the lack of media attention or public outcry is likely due to the rarity of the situation, and an inability to link it to a larger epidemic, than some kind of anti-male, liberal agenda.

If this case gets any traction in the media I can see sponsors leaving and stuff happening.
But as it stands, the only media attention is to National Team success and records. Until those accomplishments are tarnished it doesn't sound like anything will happen.
