JOB OVERVIEW
Reporting to the Director, Insurance, you will be responsible for providing support in the placement and management of Suncor's Corporate Insurance Program. You will work within an Insurance team to identify, evaluate and manage risks effectively and bring insurance expertise to the business units in contract negotiation and claims management.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
  • Provide input to the optimal combination of insurance policies, limits, deductibles and coverage that transfer risks exceeding the level of retention that is acceptable to management and, following management approval, implement such programs
  • Liaise with business units and functional areas to ensure that material changes to Suncor's risks are conveyed to insurance underwriters on a timely basis
  • Ensure compliance with terms and conditions of insurance policies
  • Meet with insurance brokers and underwriters to communicate Suncor's risk profile and cultivate relationships with the insurance market
  • Assist in the settlement of claims
  • Provide assistance to legal and supply chain management with respect to the contractual transfer of risk, by providing appropriate wordings for indemnification, risk transfer and insurance clauses in contracts
  • Facilitate, co-ordinate and participate in loss control surveys performed by loss control engineers from major insurance companies and Suncor's insurance broker
  • Keep current with industry conditions, regulations and market developments
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:
  • Degree or equivalent in finance or engineering
  • Insurance or Risk Management designation preferred
  • Minimum 5 to 8 years of related work experience
Skills and Knowledge:
  • Previous experience in Insurance with a major energy company would be preferred
  • Broad knowledge and understanding of insurance and operational risk management
  • Demonstrate a high level of insurance expertise that can be provided to business units and functional areas, brokers and insurers
  • Strong inter-personal skills are essential
WORKING CONDITIONS
  • 10-15% travel to locations in North America and internationally required
  • Flexibility in travel schedules can be limited
