Default Tip for cleaning Electric Shavers

I apologize if this is the lamest thread in the history of the internet, but hopefully it helps some people!

My electric shaver doesn't have a self cleaning kit, just a brush, and I hate cleaning the inside of it. The instructions state if you loosing the grill and let it run, it will semi self clean due to the vibrations of the loosen grill, but you should still use the brush to finish the job.

I hate doing this.

So, I tried the compressed air I use to clean down my laptop... worked better then any brush!

That's all I have to say - compressed air on electric shavers is a huge time saver.

One caution - hair is VERY light. If your holding the shaver over a sink, where you have been cleaning hair into, or shaving over, depending on your compressed air cannister distance to the sink, you might get a restroom and mouthful of hair. The compressed air is powerful enough to shoot any hair from the sink up into the air, so just keep it a little distance away.

Perhaps turning it into a "electric shaving thread" might yield more success.
That said, I am 99% committed to picking up an istubble. Anyone have reviews.

I know this comes up everytime someone mentions electric shavers, but I just really don't see why people spend that kind of money on something that cuts up your hair the way it does. Here's a picture of what your stubble looks like with a razor vs electric shaver:

Next time I date an electron microscope I'll be sure to use a razor.

I've never found an electric shaver that makes me feel like I'm clean shaved.

Plus there's something manly about dragging 5 samurai sword sharp blades across your face.

Merkur Progress.

One double-edged blade. Best shaves ever.

Throw it in the garbage and buy a safety razor would be my advice.

I'd like to try a good electric shaver before committing to it.

I am now getting out of this thread before the insults start flying.

Definitely votes for a Safety razor, though right now I'm looking for a beard trimmer, since I'm currently sporting facefull of mountain man hair.

I actually have been trying to use a razor for a while, but even giving it time for my face to get used to it (1-2 weeks), I still have a terrible time and my face hates me, so I've stuck with the electric shaver and it's fine. Certainly after doing all the prep work and making sure everything is right to use a razor, I save time using a shaver, and it's a comparable result.

You results may vary, of course.

Here is my electric shaving tip:

If you get ingrown hairs on your neck, shave with a razor (I do this in the shower) but do not shave your neck. Periodically, shave neck lightly with an electric razor.

This immediately cleared up 99% of the ingrown hairs.

Hmm, question about the double edge safety, I bought one and wondering if you can flip the blade over after the blade is dull on one side?

With respect to cleaning, can't you just disassemble and clean everything out by swishing it around in some hot water? Or is it quite different from the 3 spinning blade style of electric shaver? When I used one, that's pretty much all I did. The whole thing came apart pretty easily.

I have a Philips Arcitec (now called SensoTouch), the heads just flip open and you run the thing under the tap for a few seconds, done. I thought most of the newer electrics should work this way now, maybe it's time for you to upgrade? you don't even have to bother with the super high end ones that have those cleaning systems that make you buy consumables, just any decent wet/dry shaver should be able to do a rinse.
