Default 2012/2013 Outdoor Rinks

Looks like we'll be getting a nice cold snap here. Could be good for getting some layers of ice down soon.

Volunteer sign up meeting in Copperfield tonight at 7 in the community center if anyone lives down there and is interested in helping out this winter.

Black Diamond has been going strong for a couple weeks now. Best ice around imo. Just haven't made the trip out there yet though.

If anyone is interested, Highland Park is seeking volunteers to help out with the rink.

Rather than post the contacts email on here, just PM me and I will send it to you.

the new brighton club (which is conviently located very close to my house in new brighton) is supposedly going to be open this weekend. seems hard to imagine the ice will be any good given that it really has not been that cold - but we will see.

I think the Black Diamond rink is artificial, much like the outdoor rink in Blackfalds.

Yep and if you have an hour or two it is worth the drive!

Some of the kids that play out there are going to be good! It is basically open to anyone from after school until 5:00 or 5:30pm and then rented out if there is demand or kept open to public if not.

Canyon Meadows was good last Friday. The overnight temperatures matter more than the daytime highs for ice and having boards helps to sun shield. With it being almost December I would say things are a bit behind last year for some reason with many rinks remaining locked up. Maybe it is a volunteer issue?

I drove past Triwood on my way home from work last night and it looked like there were still patches of grass.

Does anybody know any good, open to the public rinks in the nw? Preferably close to the Uni? The oval public skate isn't cutting it for me these day. Thanks!

McKenzie Lake still too thin to skate on as of a couple days ago. But that doesn't really help anyone that doesn't live in McKenzie :P

Hard to get good ice this fast. We've had about a week of -20, and we're about 5-6 days away from hockey playable ice.

I took the kids out to the Cranston rink on Sunday. Ice was pretty decent. They have a cooling system so the ice stays good even in warmer temperatures.
