I've always been a bit of a philistine when it comes to tattoos, I always feel like no matter what I'd get it would be something I would want to change.
What made you get the tattoo(s) you have?
Any advice for someone looking to get their first?
PS. I would definitely get an LED Tattoo whenever that technology becomes available/affordable.
I had my fourth appointment last Tuesday of what will probably end up being nine to get my maple leaf removed. It's $220 per laser treatment for a tattoo I paid $80 for in 1994. I don't like tattoos at all - my advice is don't do it. It's unlikely your tastes won't change over the course of your life. In 10, 20, 30 years you probably won't want whatever you think is cool now.

Wow... How big is this tattoo? I had one lasered off to do make it an easier cover job. I went to a dermatologist and it was only $100 bucks per session.
Anyways I have about 100 hours worth of work done. Don't listen to anyone else. If you want one go for it. If you are unsure, wait and make sure it's something you want to have.
Shops now are not the same as they were 10 years ago. Most artists these days are amazing artists and a lot have an art school background.
If you walk into a shop and they have flash on the wall my suggestion would be to leave that shop. Find one that only does custom work, that usually is a sign of a better artist. If they are tracing a design off of flash, probably not so good.

YOU don't like tattoos at all, that is reason enough not to get one. But if somebody likes tattoos why shouldn't they get one?
I know a lot of people have a tattoo that is just cool looking (tribals, animals) and I think that is pretty short sighted. An original tattoo can be a beautiful piece of art when done properly.

All he said was, your tastes might change in a few years, and whatever you think is deep and meaningful now, may not matter to you later. There is no disputing that there are amazing tattoos out there, but will you be happy with it years down the road?

This is my first and only one so far, but I plan on getting another one soon. I got this 4 years ago after my fellow cooks convinced and motivated me into getting one. They told me that I'd be that much closer to being a man if I got a Tatt. Haha.
I've got four so far. Have my next major one planned out, but I just need to have the cash to put into it and it will have to wait until after I've upgraded my mountain bike because it is going to be very large and expensive.
I don't have any regrets at all about my tattoos. They're not for other people; just for me. I couldn't care less if other people think they're cool or not and most people never see them unless they know me pretty well. Even those people don't always know what they mean to me.
Personally, I just view them as art on my body. Like having a painting you like that goes with you wherever you want over the rest of your life, so whether a person has tatts because they have some deep meaning or because they just think they look great both seem reasonable to me. I used to hang around a lot at the place where I got my tatts done in Shanghai and you really meet people from all different walks of life getting tatts for all different kinds of reasons.

I got my first one 2 weeks ago a quote on my left peck. I think tattoos are good as long as they mean something for example mine is scripture with a quote that is important to me. This tattoo was planned for 2 years. my suggestion is to choose something then think about it, look at it every day for a month if it still means something and you still like it do it.
I have a list of things that I consider a complete waste of money: tricked out cars and motorcycles, those cheesy racing motorcycles, and tattoos are at the top of my list.
Maybe tattoos work for some people. People that manage, serve, or bounce at bars, for example, should have at least one tattoo. Otherwise, I think they're ridiculous.
