Building with more than 100 floors in Calgary?
[This is my first post]
I don't know if this is true or not, but I heard from somewhere that there was a proposal for a building in Calgary that would have 116 floors and be about 1,700 feet high. I can't confirm it, as I wasn't able to find anything about it anywhere. Is there anyone who knows anything about this?
By the way, the Calgary Flames are awesome

I have my doubts, The Bow is only supposed to be less than 60 floors. That would dwarf the Empire State Building.

I've hear rumors that the Bow was capped due to some bylaw limiting the number of hours of shade cast on the Bow River. Not sure if that's true, but if so I imagine it would limit a building that tall.

^^ Such a law is true. You cannot cast a shadow over the Bow River for more than so many hours/minutes per day. I heard the same rumor about the Bow being true as well.

The shadowing bylaw is true, however it only applies to the shadow cast during a certain timeframe during the year, winter is not included as the shadows are so long.

Of note, the Bow is only 58 floors. There is one proposal that could reach 1000' if the developer wanted to, and that is the Herald Square site. Brookfield bought the Herald building there as well as just securing the parkade next to it, apparently they are going back to the drawing board for the project. So we could see something of note if the stars align.

You can't build anything that will
a) cast a shadow over city hall
b) cast a shadow over the bow river.

Not surprising that the politicians don't want anyone to ruin their sun.
What's with casting a shadow over the river? do they think it will freak out the fish when they are swimming through?

I think that they're afraid it could change the ecosystem in general if there is a virtually permanent shadow on a part of the river.

I believe it's just because they don't want to ruin peoples' possible enjoyment of the river walk area.
I'm not 100% certain. I was able to attend a small presentation from the local Calgary firm working with Foster + Partners on the Bow. The height question was raised, and that was the answer we were given.
Originally it was designed to be 74 (maybe 78? I can't remember exactly) stories, but was scaled back to comply with bylaws.
