Default Car starter

I've checked past threads about this subject but wondering if anyone has any updates on any deals or past experiences. I'm looking for a 2-way starter installed. So far the best price quoted has been from AB glass and starters for $500 I think it's a compustart 901 with 1 mile range. I traded this year for an automatic truck that can't fit in the garage now
Thanks in advance.

Is this a newer vehicle with remaining warranty coverage? If so you may want to check into how an install like this could affect the warranty.

Friend of mine had a remote starter, installed in a newer Toyota and it caused nothing but problems.

There are likely lots of good stories out there as well.

I've recently gotten my HID kit installed from these guys and will soon get a remote starter from them done as well.. through the one I am looking at is about $5-600+ 2 way 5000 ft.

Maybe try giving them a call and ask about waht they have for starters.

It's a 2009 but no warranty left. Exactly, want to have it installed correctly so it doesn't become a nightmare. Hkstylez thanks for the recommendation will have to keep them in mind.

Definitely don't skimp. I went with an old calgarypuck member's business who said the soldered all the wires and took a ton of time, yada yada, ended up with a $300 bill from the dealer (took my car there as it was under warranty and had a check engine light) and got it back with a ripped out starter in the trunk.

The install wasn't done by the CP member, it was his partner, and they are no longer in business.

BBS had one screw up his old truck.

Pay more to go somewhere that will stand behind their work if you have something go wrong.

Yeah I checked that thread before but I don't think Custom Auto is still around. Seemed like descent deals and a CP discount. Appreciate it though.

I'll still recommend these guys.

http://www.mobilesounds.ca/

Had one installed there in my old Jimmy. Replaced the truck battery a year later which screwed up the immobilizer. They fixed it no questions asked free of charge, even though they had to remove a new trailer brake installation to get to it. Re-installed the trailer brake better than it was originally.

Ill echo some of the other statements here. DO NOT CHEAP OUT. I cant stress that enough. This is a part that hook into and talks to your cars CPU. You dont want your check engine light on because they didnt install it properly (or worse). As mentioned before, its just better if your cars warranty is expired.

Also if you are going to get this done, go to a reputable shop that preferably specializes in this sort of thing. You dont want some "friend of a friend" doing it. Specialty shops may charge a little more, but they know these things inside and out. And their work is warrantied as well.

Ninja edit: I dont know about the rest of you, but the next new vehicle I get will have a remote starter right away. I dont remember what life was life before it.

This. A friend of mine bought a Ridgeline from T&T Honda and the dealership was able to install a very awesome Compustar 2 way remote for him. No hassle with warranty, and it was done prior to him taking delivery of the vehicle. It only cost about $100 more than doing it elsewhere but he saves all of the peace of mind of keeping that warranty in tact.

This is the first I've heard of a dealership allowing non factory starters to be installed by their techs.

I definitely agree that's why I haven't even wasted my time with the likes of future shop. I've heard other recommendations from mobile sounds so ill call them today as there's 3 of us that want starters. Awesome advice and help guys appreciate it. Anything else just chime in. Cheers

I went to ARA Auto for starters for both my wife's car and my SUV. Both were about $500-$600 each including install (2 way models) and both have had no issues whatsoever. The staff there was great and the install time was reasonable. Dropped them off in the morning and they were ready by mid-afternoon.

Just had one installed at autotech, after reading the reviews on beyond. No complaints, seems like a great shop. Was about $525.

That price is just for the starter? I got my alarm/starter(Pro-901) done by David at AB Auto Glass and no complaints. Cheaper by a large margin compared to other local shops.

Yes $500 for just the starter. Spoke to David after someone's recommendation (maybe yours). How much was your bill if you don't mind me asking? I don't want to cheap out but was thinking the $400's could be possible from a reputable installer.

Unfortunately the stock remote starts are crap compared to the aftermarket ones...

Definitely put the homework in. As somebody who likes to mess with automotive wiring on occasion as a hobby, a remote start (and an alarm for that matter) is only as good as the install. Compustart is probably the best company, but it can be crap. Read lots of reviews.

Called mobile sounds and spoke to Duane seemed like a great guy was priced at $550 for 2w python starter and then $629 for a 2w rechargeable LCD 1 mile range starter. Don't know too much about the Python brand. Thanks for everyone's input.

It's definitely a good idea to have someone that knows what they're doing put it in. Depending on your vehicle, it can be extremely difficult or seamlessly easy.

I did my own and I put it in in under 3 hrs with little to no electrical experience.
