I guess we can move the coaching rumours in here now and kill off the regular season thread.

Tebow's passion has always been college football. Good for him for landing on his feet. He hasn't closed the door to the NFL but his QB dreams are done

Well of all the job openings I think Detroit is the most attractive. They have the QB and some other talent in place. As mentioned in the other thread, get that team some discipline and they are in the mix. Washington has a meddling owner so it will be interesting to see who they hire. After that you have a slough of teams needing a QB. I have 5 of the top 7 picking teams as needing a QB. Really if the QB class has a clear cut #2 emerge the Rams might replace Bradford who is too brittle and that would be 6 of 7.

I have the best vacancies as follows
1: Houston. QB away from SB contender, worst division of the available jobs, AFC job, decent cap shape.
2. Minnesota. QB away, toughest division, great young talent, strong cap position
3. Tampa Bay. QB away, tough division, NFC job, good cap shape
4. Detroit. A few defensive pieces away, possibly a QB as well, toughest division, potential major cap issues await in a few years.

Houston is the best job in that it offers stability in it's position. Both Capers and Kubiak were giving many years to get it done. That kind of patience rarely exists in pro sports anymore.

I may be a homer but I would say that Detroit is a much more attractive job than Minnesota or TB. Detroits defense is at least equal if not better than those two and the offense is light years ahead of them. The ownership is also very patient and hands off and with Mayhew you have a GM that would work with the right coach to allow them a say in personel decisions.
It is easy to say a QB away for TB and Minny but how are those teams getting those QB's? I can't imagine a lot of coaches want to put their futures in the hands of Mike Glennon and Matt Cassel.

Yeah, being a QB away is a long way off. Houston will get the top pick giving them an advantage. But where or when are these other teams getting a QB?

Tampa has more defensive talent than Detroit does. Really Tampa might have as much defensive talent as any team in the league. One of the rare teams with an elite player at every level of the defense (McCoy at DL; David at LB; Revis at CB). The offense also isn't really that bad, it just needs a QB. But Vincent Jackson and Mike Williams is a strong 1-2 WR tandem, the backfield is loaded all of a sudden (Doug Martin, Mike James, Bobby Rainey) and this Tim Wright guy comes out of nowhere as a rookie to finish as a top 10 TE. The Vikings meanwhile lost 4 (4!!!!) games in the last 60 seconds of the game this year, plus a tie. They are pretty close to being a good team right now. Houston, Tampa and Minnesota are also all in better cap shape than the Lions.
As to the QB part...what exactly makes Matthew Stafford anything other than what his history says he is: A middle of the road QB. Sure, he has the physical ability, but so have many guys. His play in the big games is uninspiring, his stats are over-inflated due to Megatron, and he's in the Romo zone in terms of decision making. His career low in INTs in 16, meaning he basically averages 1 a game, and only 1 season over 60% completion. Stafford can be an upper echelon QB, but to date there's nothing in his play that suggests he's anywhere close right now.

I would say bringing a team to the play-offs makes him much more attractive than anybody that TB or Minny has. His ability to throw for over 5,000 yards a season make him a pretty good option at QB.
Sure a lot of that may be due to having Megatron but Megatron isn't going anywhere so that combo is much better than anything Minnesota or TB is throwing out there. He is also 25 with arguably the strongest arm in the league so plenty of time/skills to work with there and improve on. I would also say his 2011 season is certainly an indication he could be in the upper echleon of QB's. He is easily top 15 right now.
Cap troubles are easy to avoid in the NFL with competent management that isn't driven by ego centric owners (Oakland, Dallas, Washington).
I am not so sure how elite Revis is at this point and a loaded backfield isn't really that much better than the Detroit backfield. Megatron alone makes the Detroit receivers at worst on par with TB and the Detroit D-Line is much better than what TB has.
Detroit obviously has holes in the secondary and needs a #2 WR but I think I would prefer to go to a stable ownership group that has a top 5 player in the league, a good young QB and young talent on both lines.

I mean when I rank the best jobs, the difference between Minnesota, Detroit and Tampa is negligable, small differences here or there, but they're all close enough in terms of overall roster talent. Tampa and Houston both offer one major advantage, that being income tax free states (two I guess with weather). Coaches earn more, easier to attract free agents.
But I think Houston is easily the best job. The AFC South is a joke and the Titans and Jags seem lost at sea. Houston can win that division next year if Teddy turns out to be what people think. Tampa, Minnesota and Detroit are all in brutal divisions. If I was a coach and missed on Houston, I'd be pretty disappointed. Great chance to succeed there.

Lions should get Wisenhunt. His Arizona team that made it to the Super Bowl was pretty much the current Lions plus a #2 WR.

I think Houston is the best job followed by Detroit, Tampa Bay, Cleveland, and Minnesota in that order

Well if you want a team full of MRSA players, Tampa is the best option.

moon, who would you like to see come in to Detroit? Are you of the mind that the main problems in Detroit are discipline? Does that follow the notion that a guy renowned for discipline ala Lovie would be best?
Houston clearly has to be the prettiest destination I think. I wonder if any of the HCs let go this year will end up HCing again next year? Has that happened much before?

Dude you're an Eagles fan, it just happened with Andy Reid! But otherwise yeah its usually back to co-ordinator or year off for most coaches.

I talked about this in other thread but will do a recap here.
Number one choice is Gruden, but doubt he leaves the booth.
I like Lovie Smith because I think he is the type of coach we need with the discipline and attention to detail. I also would like Whisenhunt because I think he is a good coach that had a bad situation with terrible QBs last year. Those two would be my top choices.
Not a fan of a college guy coming in and don't really want any of the top Co-ordinators either.
I would say right now my choice would be 1. Gruden 2. Whisenhunt 3. Smith
Beyond a guy I am totally forgetting those are the 3 I want.
