Icon46 Vancouver and Chicago complete another big deal

The Vancouver Canucks have traded

David Backes
Joel Edmundson

to the Chicago Backhawks for

Andrew Cogliano
Vyacheslav Voinov
Phillip Danault
2014 1st round draft pick (SJ)
2nd round pick pick owed to the Canucks by the 2014 draft

Had been receiving a bit of interest in Backes so I decided to put him on the trade block since I have 4 capable centers and figured trading him would give me a boost to my rebuild. Danault is a guy I had previously targeted but had no luck getting in San Jose, and am very happy to get him in this deal. He is a great defensive forward who is tearing it up right now in the QMJHL. Voinov is another guy that I really like, he played great last year in his rookie season and should see more playing time since Jack Johnson was traded to CBJ. Cogliano is a guy the sim loves seeing as he is going at a ppg right now. He still young and has some potential. And the picks speak for themselves.

Thanks for the quick, easy and fun deal Chicago.

Like this one significantly more for Chicago. Easily makes up for the Parise trade.

Somehow the Canucks managed to get a lot less for Backes than the Hawks did for Parise. What the Hawks got for Parise would've been more accurate for what the nucks should've got for Backes at the minumim.

There's a 4 OV difference between Backes and Parise...

Yep. What the Hawks got for Parise should've been what you got for Backes at the minimum.

The reason why I don't like this trade is that

Cogliano = 3rd/4th liner
Danault upside = 3rd/4th liner
Voinov upside = 66-68 OV D-man
What should be a mid 1st and 2nd in 2014 will take 5 years to be rated in the league.

Just thought you could get more that's all.

The bolded is basically what we don't see eye-to-eye with, but opinions are always appreciated.

With everything, there's never a consensus. (Just figured you should've got 1 more solid piece in this for Backes)

I like the deal for both. I think Danault has Kesler potential. Already a winner of defensive forward of the year award in the Q and can put up points.
