There was a time in my life when this was a glorious day where I could spend and extra hour at the bar getting piled, now as a father with an infant son on a tight sleep schedual it simply means I will be waking up at 6am tomorrow and not 7.... Crap.

Yeah, someone needs to explain to infants and toddlers that they can sleep for an extra hour.

I have an international flight tomorrow morning.
I know this sounds completely ridiculous right now, but I'm really nervous about arriving at the airport one hour later for some reason.

You must be old because I don't remember the bars staying open past 1 am on these mornings. Am i wrong or just too drunk?

Why do we still do this? Isn't it some stupid holdover from when the majority of the population were farmers and they needed an extra hour for harvest or something?
I respect farmers. Tough gig. But we live in cities now. We have electricity for lights.
Can we stop with the time changes?

No, it has nothing to do with farmers. It doesn't magically create an extra hour in the day. If you live your life by the rising and setting of the sun, it doesn't matter what time the clock on the wall says it is.
Saskatchewan is the most farmer-filled province in the country and it's also the only province that doesn't have DST.
There are many reasons why we have DST, and they're all for the benefit of the city-dwellers whose lives are dictated by the time on the clock. It gives the 9-5 office drones an extra hour of sunlight for outdoor activities during the summer months. Being so far north, we don't really get a big advantage from this because sunset would be really late whether we were on DST or not, but for a southern city, like San Diego, it gives them light in the sky until 8:30pm in June rather than 7:30pm.
The reason why we go back to standard time during the winter is so that sunrise is at a reasonable time during the shortest days of the year. As it is, in late December in Calgary, twilight (when it's bright enough to walk around outside without additional lighting) isn't until 8:00am. If we stayed on DST year-round, it wouldn't be until 9:00am.

so let me get this straight. We move the clocks back an hour to save daylight and energy but instead of being dark at 6 it will be dark at 5 and by the time december rolls around it will be dark at 4:30. So, when it's cold and you have to turn heat on, and turn your lights on to see how is it that we are saving energy?
Just do away with the crap

No, you've got it 100% backwards. We move on to Daylight Savings time to give us more sunlight in the evening hours during the summer.
What we are doing now, come winter, is moving back to regular time. There are no direct benefits incurred during the winter months, nor were any ever intended when DST was introduced.

Oh how I hate working night shifts this weekend.
Come to think of it, I don't like DST to begin with.

I live on the eastern edge of the Central Time Zone and I hate it with a passion because we get dark a lot earlier. Her dad lives in Indianapolis and we're further east than he is but he is in the Eastern Time Zone

DST was conceived by a dude who wanted to golf longer in the summer. It used to save candles and electricity. Now, it's just a bogus waste of time.
