To what end? So we could maybe finish 29th overall instead of 30th?

And who's to say whether he'd have any interest in playing here?

Regardless of 29th or 30th we should always be stockpiling good young players with potential. Especially for cheap.

Why not give him a year contract and see what he can do. If I wanted to be apart of a high pressure organization and have a chance to become a top guy, why not take it.

He is better than keeping some is the older guys we have. We already know he has some skills.

I don't care, for one year he would have been worth it. Very talented player who is a natural goal scorer. Play him with Baertschi and accelerate Sven's development at the very least.

Oh well, we have plenty of guys to get excited about this year.

Confirmed by his agent's twitter feed:

NEIL SHEEHY ‏@ICEHockeyAgent 14s Damien Brunner in NJ at Devils/Rangers game tonight and will join Devils' training camp tomorrow morning at practice on PTO.

Kind of redundant to have with Sven, Hudler, Cammalleri on the team already.

He's also horrid defensively.

I'd disagree on that.

Brunner put up 16 points in 16 games during a January through February stretch. For the other 30 games he had 10 points.

He also put up nearly half his points on a PP that consisted of him, Zetterberg, Datsyuk, Franzen and Kronwall. It shouldn't be that surprising he was able to put up some decent numbers.

Inconsistent, small, offense-only oriented players are not the type of guys that Baertschi should be playing with at this point in his development.

I honestly thought he'd already signed in Jersey months ago.

and get Baertschi killed? or run out out of the league. There is physical contact in the NHL.... Small talented players are more successfully when they have large aggressive players playing on their lines.

Brunner would not have been that much different than keeping Cervenka around. Yes, Brunner may have scored more points. (0.59 PPG vs. 0.43 PPG), but I'm almost positive Cervenka would've at least done that well on Detroit too.

Already have a similar type of player in Hudler. No need to get any smaller.

So the Devils have replaced Kovy and Clarkson with Ryder, Clowe, and Brunner? Adding Schnieder gives them the best goalie tandem in the league. I really hope Cory wins the Vezina this year to salt the wounds of the many butthurt Canuck fans

Good for the Devils.

I'll view this the same way as Thomas going to Florida. Anything that helps improve these teams helps us in the draft....

Oh wait, the Devils do not have a 1st rounder this year. Ha ha!
