Default Crowchild trail closed due to water main breakage

This may be relevant to anyone commuting tomorrow morning. Southbound Crowchild Tr is closed between Bow Trail and 33rd Ave due to a ruptured water main. Northbound Crowchild has been entirely routed to the offramp to 33rd (so it's down to one lane with a traffic light).

Apparently there's been extensive damage to the road on SB Crowchild and they're going to have to dig it up, diagnose the problem, fix it, then repair the road. The other problem was with how cold it was last night, the water was freezing almost as soon as it came out.

According to the news this mroing, they're not sure it will be fixed by tomorrow. So, if you're like me and have to be somewhere at a very specific time, I'd be planning alternate routes and leaving a LOT of extra time.

33rd to Bow flows so well usually that people might not even notice.

Drove through this last night 10 minutes after it happened, and it was a huge mess. Won't surprise me if it takes a good bit of time to get this cleaned up.

Is this similar to when 14 Street NW slid down the hill and was closed for weeks?

I'm over here in Glenbrook and just found out our water is off too, and naturally I figured that out after dropping a massive deuce in the toilet.

Anybody heard any timelines on when service will be restored?

EDIT: Just got off the phone with 311 and theres no estimate for a repair, but apparently there is a water-wagon at the end of my block. Here's hoping I don't have to poop in a bucket all night!

Several years ago, there was a water main break under McKnight (between Barlow and Metis), and it was close to -30 outside. The fire dept had to bring in their boats to help rescue stranded motorists.

McKnight was closed for around a week.

Think of the lane closures as a sneak peak for when that $1B Crowchild expansion plan gets put into motion.

Hopefully no one is checking CP for updates, and this hasn't been posted yet, however if you are, STAY AWAY STAY AWAY.. crowchild down to one lane still this morning, with all traffic going up the 33 Ave ramp and down the other side

Since I work near MRU and join Crowchild south at 50th, I am looking forward to what should be an easy commute over the bridge onto Glenmore. Yay water main breaks!
