nfotiu is right. Average here in San Diego is about 4.75 a gallon.
Typically, it is the stations at the freeway exits that are higher priced.
I am sure we all remember cheaper prices but only 3-4 years ago it was 2.75 here.

Well, it should take gas prices being over 5.00 or more for changes to be made so that's good.

^Don't bet on it.
I'd be willing to bet that after a short term dip when gas reached $1 per litre, driving behaviours have returned to normal. Those mental barriers exist only in the mind. Reality has a way of smashing right through them without losing momentum. One quickly accepts the new price and focuses on the next barrier.

Consumers have such short term memories. Gasoline prices go up for a period and economy car sales eventually coincide and gas guzzling SUV sales slip. The moment gasoline prices go down people start buying trucks and SUV's like they are going out of style. North Americans (more specifically Americans) have an infatuation with the automobile specifically larger ones.

Even at $6/gallon its still affordable my the vast population; gas prices have to go up significantly, into the double digit range for it to have a real economic effect. Remember, societely we are insensitive to gasoline prices howeever we think we are fine tuned.

You will be very suprised how much people will be willing to pay for Gas. Especially in a city like Calgary where on top of being very car oriented in its layout, it's also cold so walking, biking, etc is not a comfortable option and those hybrids and electric cars start to perform alot worse.
Fyi, Norway, Turkey, Israel all pay around $10 a gallon for premium.

I'm not getting suckered this time. Back in 2006 when i was looking for a car, gas prices hit $1.23/litre, so i went and bought a Hybrid Civic. Then 3 weeks later it was back at $.97! ffff hehe

While the price per gallon crossing psychological barriers may not have lasting impacts, the effect on the monthly budget does have people searching for options to reduce the amount they are spending on gas. I pretty much ignored the effect of gas on my budget for years until it started hitting about 300 a month. When I realized I could trade my suv in for a tdi Wagon and save 200 a month, I traded vehicles that weekend. Consumers seem to be paying more attention to gas mileage than ever before. Evidence is in how much commercials are promoting epa numbers these days.

I thought paying $4.29/gallon for premium was expensive when I drove down to Southern California in August.

That's debateable. The last turbocharged 4 cylinder I owned got 17 mpg (Mitsubishi Evolution X) which is an extreme version but even less performance oriented boosted 4 cylinder engines drink gas if you are on boost and it's hard not to be when accelerating in stop and go traffic and rarely in real life come close to their EPA manufacturer estimates.
My current car gets 15 mpg and I accept it's the price to pay for performance which is why I don't complain about gas prices.

Better than a comparable V6. Atleast in my experience.
Plus if you stay out of boost you're golden.

3-4 years ago? I was cleaning out my truck so I could trade it in. I found a receipt from mid 2010. I filled up for 2.19 Cents a gallon. I was like vey... It's still pretty cheap in Oklahoma. I think 3.55 gallon.

I drove past Bassano yesterday and that Esso was 1.27/litre. That would take the jam out of my donut in a hurry. 1.13 is bad enough.

Gaah, I can't afford that! How long until an electric car is built with a battery that lasts as long as a full tank of gas?
