Default Vet question

So our dog chipped one of its upper fang canine teeth pretty badly. Went to vet to get checked out and got her on pain meds and antibiotics. Options are extraction or getting a referral to a specialist for root canal. Vet said root canal will be insanely expensive and she can do fine missing that tooth. Estimated the extraction fee between 550-900 bucks depending on how much of the sedation drugs they gotta use and how long it ultimately takes.

Any of you ever dealt with this with your pets? I tried calling a few other vets but they all require her to be pre-examined before they will give a quote on the procedure (and the places that would do a free dental estimate are booked until 2 weeks from now). Not sure if this is considered pricey or not to have a tooth pulled.

They said for the one she'll need to be put under because its a canine tooth and hard to extract.

My dog sheared off a back molar about 8 years ago. It had to be pulled and ended up costing us over $800.00 back then already. It was expensive as that tooth is long and actually has a double root and took awhile to get out. Your dog should be fine without it but I'm guessing it will be somewhat expensive.

How does everyone feel about pet insurance? We don't have it because the stories I've heard is that very little is actually covered. This would have technically fallen under accident coverage though so I'd imagine it would have been.
