Default US Ambassador to Lybia, along with 3 others, killed

I'm a bit surprised nobody has posted this as a separate thread...

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB1000...576633348.html

Quote:
The U.S. ambassador to Libya, Christopher Stevens, and three other American diplomats were killed when suspected Libyan religious extremists stormed the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi late Tuesday, sparking a security crisis across the North African country and raising tensions across the Middle East.
Is this just the start of things to come?

I'm sure yesterday's date of Sept 11 played a huge factor in the attack.

The results of the Arab Spring is that countries that were formerly controlled by dictators now are being governed by fundamenalist Islamic religious parties.

I suspect the same will happen with Syria once Bashar is over-thrown.

I don't see good things in the future for both the middle east and the rest of the world.

Pretty sure it had something to do with the recent protests against Egyptian-American Coptic filmmakers characterizing the prophet Mohammed.

Also, I'm pretty sure even with Islamist parties in power, they are nowhere near as hostile as say, Iran. Egypt now has their first democratically-elected president, and Morsi has vowed to work with the West to improve relations. Libya is in a similar situation, with el-Magariaf representing a General National Congress in the midst of a tranisitioning parliamentary elections process.

I hardly see Libya and Egypt as fun by fundamentalists, even if the media spins it so.

A amateur movie that insults islam was made in the USA. The trailer for the movie can be found here:

Man, sometimes it seems that people over in that part of the world take things to the extreme. You interpret someone as slandering your religion? Perhaps you should pray for them, not kill them.

Guess violence is the easiest answer for some people. They used their fists instead of their intelligence.

Whatever simmering resentments exist in their countries, dictatorships keep the lid pressed down. When the strongman's gone, everyone else is scrambling for control and the lid blows off.

There was an interesting article a couple of days (I believe it was on AlJazeera) which actually argued the exact opposite. The fact that islamists are in government, takes away popular support from extremist Islamic groups. I'll see if I can find it and link it. It was quite eye-opening, I have to admit.

So many religeous people are too god-damned thin skinned.

On the other hand, if I was forced to watch that movie I'd probably be homicidal too.

The filmmaker got exactly what he wanted out of this, namely free pub for his movie and getting to incite violence to prove his point about Muslims. Of course if he had actual balls he wouldn't be hiding like a scared coward right now.

After listening to the election news in the US, I would say it is not just over there. Remember that judge who is preparing for civil war if Obama gets elected? Give people something they are passionate about and they will do crazy things.

My sister moved back to Canada from the USA because she couldn't cope with the "what if" feeling everyday she was there. This whole kill in the name of....really makes no sense. It is quite depressing that people would follow someone or ideology so mindlessly. Like skin heads...really? This day in age? I tried explaining the swastika to my little boy who asked about it when he saw it on a shirtly azzhole by the weir a few weeks ago. Talk about feeling uneasy standing beside a neonazi skinhead with my young son pointing at his tats and asking....yeah son they hate you because you're not white.

Group think is scary.

I saw it's work first hand in the 90's in the Balkans. People that were neighbour for years suddenly are now enemies.

At least you are man enough to explain it to your son, knowledge really is power when it comes to this type of human nature.

The Irony is that these Violent/Murderous Muslim Protests are only making this Film (the very thing they are against) more famous and widespread than it originally would've been. Who honestly would've heard of/looked at/given 2 rats ass about this thing if these dumb Fanatics hadn't done anything?
