Default How much do you pay for Car Insurance?

I just got my renewal notice and since this is the first year I'm paying for it myself (spoiled as a student from the rents) I'd like to know how much people are paying on average.

I drive a 4 door 2001 Honda Civic, I'm 24 years old, never had an accident ever... and have had one speeding ticket when i was 17 and an illegal u turn ticket when i was 19. That's pretty much it.

TD Insurance quoted me at $1500.00 for third party insurance. I'm not sure if this is average or to high. I'm curious to see what other people are paying so I can shop around if this is to high.

Thanks

Don't you automatically pay a higher premium for a Civic? I think they're one of the most stolen cars out there. I could be wrong.

Just renewed, $1900 for the year.
12 years driving experience, completely clean record. ICBC suck!
I'm sure it would be much lower in Alberta.

I have never had an accident and have 17 years of driving experience.

I pay $60/month for full coverage on my 2005 Toyota.

When I first shopped around upon renewal approximately 6 years ago I found a company who was willing to give me the same coverage for half the price of my previous insurer and I have been completely satisfied with my premiums and coverage ever since.

If anyone wants to know who I have my insurance through, feel free to PM me.

A couple of questions: is this your first time having insurance on your own or have you been listed on your parents' policy? Have you been the primary driver on your vehicle? I put the info that you gave into Kanetix.ca and it looks like it might be too high with TD.

I pay about $140 a month for one way. Turning 25 will make it a bit cheaper for you.

Just phoned TD Insurance and they informed me my policy was for full coverage. So that changed my thoughts quite a bit.. haha switched to Liability only and now i'm paying $862.00 a year only. Thanks guys

That still may be too high. Check out www.kanetix.ca - I guessed some of your info but it gave me a quote at less that $800 per year.

I have 3 cars, the most expensive I pay is $488/year, everything except collision and glass. I've tried finding cheaper but Canadian Direct is the best deal I could find. I don't like them as a company they tried really hard to screw me over on hail damage. I only stay with them because of the $$$$. I'm at grid -15.

I drive a 2000 Lexus, 1990 Toyota, 1987 Toyota. They require a vehicle inspection for anything older than 15 years, has to be done every 4-5 years not sure exactly on the time table.

2008 BMW 135i Full coverage w/collision/glass 1 mil.
1997 Subaru Impreza Liability only 1 mil.
And Condo Insurance 50 grand contents and flooding or something like that.

$1100 / year for the whole kit an kaboodle.

I deal with the best discount broker in the city. About 30% of my clients switch to him as well once they get a quote. He has been a broker in Calgary for over 20 years, and he will tell you to stay put if you are getting a good deal. He has such a massive portfolio he won't take new clients unless he can save you money. About half of all Car Dealer employees in Calgary use him because of his excellent rates. If you work at a dealer, you already know who I am talking about.

PM me if you want contact info. I have no issues sending people Tim's way whatsoever.

I have quit trying to understand insurance rates.

An Audi A4 costs more for a 25 year to insure than a Porsche Boxster. My 300 HP, rear drive BMW costs less to insure than my front drive, 200 HP GTI did.

It makes zero sense.

I thought that too, but a lot of times new cars are cheaper than old ones.....I think mostly because of the safety features they have.

Still seems odd considering how expensive parts and body work is for new cars these days.

I pay about 72/month for a honda and will be paying $60/month for a new Volt. My insurance company says the honda is a sports car so I pay extra.
