Default WEEK 14: Eskimos at STAMPEDERS - Part 3

Calgary Stampeders won the first two nail-biting games against the Eskimos this season. First on Labour Day Classic when kicker Shaw went wide on his field goal attempt and Larry Taylor ran the ball out of the end zone with no time left in the game. Stamps won 31-30. Stamps won again on the rematch in Edmonton with kicker Shaw missing the field goal again with no time left. It was actually scary because it looks the ball will go to the middle for a points but it changed direction and it ended up hitting the post. Stamps won 20-18. Are we going to see another nailbiter tomorrow night?

OFFENSE:

Stamps offense struggled in the first half against Saskatchewan last week. RB Jon Cornish only rushed for 67 yards but the Stamps sort of abandone the running game on the 2nd half because they were down by 2 TDs. There was one instance where he broke free from the Riders' defense but the referee blocked his path.

QB Kevin Glenn still passed for 270 yards and 2 TDs but he threw another INT. The offense were very inconsistent throughout the game.

R Marquay McDaniel finally caught his first TD as a Stampeders and ended up scoring another TD later on. He ended up with 5 catches for 45 yards and 2 TDs. R Nik Lewis was 5 for 61 yards after the game.

Coach Hufnagel was telling the media that QB Drew Tate will dress for the game but don't expect him to see any action at all. He is still rehabbing from his injuries but been throwing on practice lately.

DEFENSE:

Calgary defense with the exception of DE Charleston Hughes was brutal against the Riders. Whenever Hughes couldn't beat the double-team, QB Darian Durant seems to be having lots of time picking his receiver. His favorite receiver Weston Dressler was pretty much wide open all game.

MLB Juwan Simpson was a non-factor at all and struggled. The DBs also struggled containing Dressler or Smith.

With the injury to DL Demonte Bolden, rookie Michael Stover, who was one of the last cut in training camp will be the starting. I don't think DE Stevie Baggs will dress for the game. I believe he is still rehabbing from his injury during his NFL tryouts.

SPECIAL TEAM:

K Rene Paredes now has 101 points on the year. He sits 5th in the CFL points race. He missed one field goal on Sunday going 3 for 4 for the game. P Rob Maver is 3rd in the CFL with 44.4 yards punting average and leads the league in net punting average of 37.3 yards per game.

Stamps special team as a group is actually doing well this season. Coverage team are good the reason why Rob Maver leading the league in net punting average. Stamps actually stopped the Riders on a fake punt on Sunday, a turnover resulted in 7 points for the ensuing drive.

PR/KR Jason Armstead will replace LaMarcus Coker in this game. Coker had a wide open field or could have gone all the way to the end zone but he slowed down because of hamstring injury. This is the 2nd time in 2 years Coker went down with hamstring injury when he had a wide open field on the return. Armstead will be count on giving the Stamps good field position all game.

OPPOSITION:

Ever since Kavis Reed came in a head coach of the Eskimos, we all started scratching our head with his decision-making. I am not saying he is a bad coach but he's got some weird decision since he came aboard. I remembered last season against the Stamps. He dressed 2 kickers Derek Schavonne and I can't remember the other guy's name. The other guy was doing well kicking field goal then he put in Schavonne in relief. Not sure why...but Stamps won the game. Then on the rematch of Labour Day Classic this season, he dressed 3 RBs but they decided to throw the ball the whole game. Now, the question is "WHO WILL START AS A QB?" Steven Jyles started last game but they lost the game and they seems so confused on the last play. Kerry Joseph started both games against the Stamps and did an okay job. Will Joseph start? Some say Joseph is hurting that's why he didn't start last game. What about Matt Nicholls? There was a rumour that he might be the starting QB against the Stamps but who knows.

As for the RB. Who will sit out? Or will Reed dress all 3 again? Only Kavis Reed can answer that question.

I can't wait for this game. GO STAMPS GO!!!!

From what I've read from Edmonton, Nichols will start and they haven't played all 3 backs in a couple weeks. Charles has played in all their games and they seem to have started to rotate between Boyd and Messam. Put pressure on Nichols and you win this game imo.

Well JC stands for Jesus Christ doesn't it? If not, at least some sort of God at TSN.

Sherritt is having a really good season. He's a good player. But in order to have that many tackles, your defense has to be on the field a lot.

EE's have the 2nd worst time of possession. Their defense is on the field so much that they have allowed the 2nd most yards and the 2nd most 1st downs.

Now that Jyles and Joseph are hurt and the 3rd string QB is starting, he'll probably end the season with 300 tackles.

That's a good point. The reason for JC Sherritt's good season so far. Their offense sucks and don't stay on the field much so yeah, their defense spent more time on the field.

Of course the dynamic TSN duel Chris Cutthbert and Glen Suitor doesn't see it that way. They just look at the stats and worship the guy. As far as I know Cornish is still 2-0 against Sheritt this season.

Nice start for the defence, almost an interception for Simpson.

Should have been an INT but hopefully that shows the type of decisions NIcholls will make tonight because that was a horrible throw.

And as usual Glenn holds on for way too long on first down and throws way too short on 2nd down.

What the hell is Armstead doing? Let that roll into the endzone.

Edit - Thankfully we got a 1st down.

Why do DB's even bother trying to get through Nik Lewis?

Actually they will get the 15 yard No Yard penalty on the play so i wasn't really too upset about it. It was kind of funny in a way.
