Evil Dead - 2013
This remake looks really creepy. Anyone a fan of the original? I'm going to try and find it this weekend so I can watch it. I've seen the musical, and it seemed like more of a comedy than a horror.

No Sam Raimi, no Bruce Campbell, no thanks.
That said, while Evil Dead 2 and Army Of Darkness are definitely Horror/Comedy, Evil Dead (1) was more visceral and was definitely more on the Horror side of Horror/Comedy.

Is this a film that was crying for a remake? I love the original, but really what made it and the sequels good was Bruce Campbell.

Yeah and Raimi also co-wrote it with *blech* Diablo Cody.
Sorry I know Raimi is still butthurt we all didn't like Spider-wuss 3, and Bruce hasn't done anything good since Bubba Ho-Tep, but dear god just leave the franchise in peace.

You have to remember that it wasnt supposed to be a 'horror/comedy' it only ended that way because Sam Raimi is very bad at his job.
The fact that it became a cult hit is something that he fell ass-backwards into.

Drag Me To Hell was pretty solid. Rami definitely still has it. The stuff he directs is largely good (Spiderman 3 sucked), but the stuff he produces is all over the board. The majority of it is all crap.

Every decent franchise has been getting a remake lately. The Evil Dead was a straight up horror flick until the sequel. Matter of fact, Evil Dead 2 was essentially a remake of the first turned into a comedy.
It will be interesting to see if they can make it scary again. I respect the fact that they are trying to bring it back to its roots (no pun intended for Evil Dead fans who know what I'm talking about)
The trailer actually looks pretty intense imo.

Wrong. Evil Dead 2 was definitely meant to be a slapstick comedy/ horror. Raimi is a big fan of The Three Stooges and you can plainly see those elements in the sequel.
Sam Raimi has made some very solid movies over his career. Every director has a few blemishes on their resume (ie Spider Man 3)

Raimi has a very up and down career, and most of his mainstream fare is pretty terrible (basically, the exception of The Quick And The Dead and A Simple Plan).
#### he couldn't even make Liam Neeson into a good superhero.

I know that. But 'Evil Dead' wasnt. It was just so bad that they took it and ran with it as a horror/comedy in Evil Dead 2.
Sam Raimi is very bad at what he does.

Is he? Spiderman and Spiderman 2 were quite lauded (3 sucked, of course). Also, Army of Darkness and the Evil Dead series are timeless cult classics, which for a horror director aren't feeble accomplishments.

'Lauded' and 'Any Good' are not the same. Spiderman was a tolerable film. Spiderman 2 was okay, it was watchable. Spiderman 3 may not have been the worst film ever made, but its in the conversation.
As for Evil Dead and Army of Darkness, those are cult classics for a reason. That doesnt make them great movies, Raimi just took the schtick and ran with it.
Other than that the guy hasnt made a single good movie and I never understand why he keeps getting chances.
