Okotoks Dawgs baseball
Another season of Dawgs baseball in the WMBL has started. To those that don't know, the league is comprised of college and university players from Canada and the United States. It's developmental league where players come to hone thier skills. The season starts June 1st and ends on around the 15th of August as players return to thier school's. Many players from the league have been drafted by MLB teams.
Seaman Stadium is a slice of heaven. There are no bad seats in the house and it's a great atmosphere to watch a ball game. Admission is very reasonable as $10 gets you any seat in the stadium and $5 gets a place on the grass berm on the left field line. Food and beer prices are very reasonable also. I should add they make a great hamburger and hotdog.
Both 2009 and 2010 season boasted new attendance records at Seaman Stadium and increased recognition amongst the Summer Collegiate Baseball elite. The most recent survey by Ballpark Businesshas identified the Dawgs’, with per game attendance averaging 2223 fans, as the top baseball draw in Alberta, professional or otherwise, the top summer collegiate draw in Canada and now among the top 5 summer collegiate franchises in all of North America.
The continued success of the Dawgs’ has been also been highlighted by Ballpark Business with a feature article published on the website. The story spotlights the significant milestone of the 200,000th fan passing through the gates of Seaman Stadium. In addition to this, another attendance record was broken during the 2010 season of Dawgs Baseball when Over 4,000 fans jammed Seaman Stadium to celebrate Canada’s birthday. Pricing for seats went up 25% this year...now $12.50 a seat.
All other facts are as stated.

Dawgs win their home opener with 2 runs in the bottom of the 9th to beat their rivals from Edmonton 5-4 in thrilling fashion.
Sean Kettering lead the way hittting 2 solo home runs with the latter being a game tying blast over the left field fence in the bottom of the 9th. Later in the same inning, David Head came to the plate with 2 outs and men on 1st and 2nd and delivered a hit to center field to bring in the winning run.
Dawgs are now 4-1 with another home game tomorrow night against Saskatoon.

Shaw is carrying Okotoks two games this weekend against Saskatoon (Saturday 7:00 and Sunday 2:00). I believe Peter Loubardias is doing the play by play for both games.

I'm not really a baseball fan by any stretch, but I'd like to check out one of these games sometime. I do enjoy when local/grassroots sports are a bit of a success story, and I think that it would be a great way to spend an evening.
The biggest obstacle is the drive (I live up in the NW part of Calgary), and a son that still naps around the afternoon times, and goes to bed around the evening times. Soon enough we'll be able to go together and make an outing out of it, of course.
We live is south Calgary so its only about 25 minutes away but it is fantastic. Eveyone is very nice, tickets are still cheap, only $25 for a pair, and the food/beer prices are reasonable.
The game is handled well too with a few features thoughout to keep the fans going regardless of the score. The Dawgs are usually a pretty good team too, so you usually walk away with a win.

$12.50 each for tickets? You can do better than that.... http://panthers.nhl.com/
I can't believe that's real life.
But yes, Dawgs. I hate baseball with a bloody passion. However, for those who don't, I know people who have gone to games in Okotoks and had nothing but good things to say about it. So do support some grass-roots sports and have a good time!

Okotoks Dawgs flex muscles in win over division rivals
Friday June 14, 2013

The Okotoks Dawgs (8-2) faced their division rival Medicine Hat Mavericks (10-2) in a battle of the two best in the league. The Dawgs came ready to play in front of another great crowd at Seaman Stadium and put up four runs in the first and went on to win by a final of 10-0.
At the plate, the team was led by Cade Gotta (San Diego Christian College), who was a home run shy of the cycle and collected a total of three hits and three RBI’s. The Dawgs continued to show their offensive power with two more home runs. Thomas Rodrigues (Niagra University) hit his first bomb of the season and Sean Kettering (Otterbein University) continues to dominate opposing pitchers with his sixth homer in 10 games played.
Chris Villalobos (Georgetown College) got the start after arriving in Okotoks late last night and shut down the league-leading Mavericks. In seven innings, he only gave up one hit while striking out three. Dominic Porretta (Otterbein University) came in for the eighth and ninth, throwing two strong innings while only giving up one hit.

Dawgs win in front of packed house
Sunday June 16, 2013
Quote:
The Okotoks Dawgs (9-3) hosted the Edmonton Prospects (1-12) during the annual Father’s Day game in front of just over 4000 people at beautiful Seaman Stadium. The game did not start out as planned for the home squad, but a late rally gave the fans a lot to cheer about.
The Prospects put up three runs in the first, four in the second and one more in the third to give them an 8-6 lead through three innings. After a rocky start, the relievers settled down and shut down their opponents from there. Dominic Porretta (Otterbein University) got the win pitching, 2.2 innings without giving up a run.
The offense was playing from behind from the first inning on, but it didn’t seem to rattle them. After scoring early to try and match the runs that the Prospects were putting up, the boys put the game away in the eighth inning. Sean Kettering (Otterbein University) hit his seventh home run of the young season and Jordan Procyshen (Northeastern Junior College) hit his second homer of the year. Also, Cade Gotta (San Diego Christian College) put a ball over the fence to give him his first homer of the season.
I started going down there last year and I have been going fairly regularly. The ball park is beautiful and the field is in better shape Ethan foothills even when the cannons played there.
The one thing that I do find lacking there is the ability of the people announcing the game to keep up with what is going on. Pitching changes and defensive changes are often wrong or just flat out missed.
When I go I do score the game on my iPad ( yes I am a massive nerd) and if anyone is interested you can look it up as okotokes dawgs 2013 on game changer.
One other thing is they have a hard time figuring out a hit from an error some nights.
The atmosphere is amazing. The food above average and the beer is cold.
