Default Pope heading to Lebanon

http://www.montrealgazette.com/touch...tml?id=7234681

Quote:
VATICAN CITY - The brutal civil war in Syria and the killing of the U.S. ambassador to Libya have given a sense of urgency to Pope Benedict XVI's trip this week to Lebanon, a mission he describes as a pilgrimage of peace for the entire region.

The three-day visit starting Friday will take the pope to the nation with the largest percentage of Christians in the Middle East — nearly 40 per cent of Lebanon's 4 million people, with Maronite Catholics the largest sect.

He'll be welcomed into the country. Lebanon is a very diverse country with Christians, Catholics, and Muslims living with each other.

Isn't that redundant?

Catholics and Christians wouldn't think so. Similar to Shias and Sunni though. Same religion, minor differences.

Better than what? Are you suggesting that Catholics are not Christians? Do people actually think that only Protestants count as Christians?

I was raised in a Catholic family. We most definitely viewed ourselves as Christians. I don't know a single Catholic who doesn't feel that way.

[Edit]
First sentence from the wikipedia article on Catholicism:

Quote:
The Catholic Church, also known as the Roman Catholic Church, is the world's largest Christian church, with more than one billion members worldwide
Emphasis added.

All apples are fruits, but not all fruits are apples.

The same can be said about Catholics and Christians

I'm not going to argue such a stupid thing as this, especially because I don't even give a fudge about religion at all. I just think it's useless and beneath a poster like you to pretend to not know that christians that are not catholic identify themselves as christians. But carry on with wherever you were attempting to take the thread with your useless remark. We all know how this thread is going to end anyway. I don't even know why I opened it. Sorry. Carry on.

That's not what I said at all.

Christianity is a superset that contains three large subsets: Catholics, Protestants, and Eastern Orthodox.

Iginla's statement in the OP was written in a redundant manner because it implied that Catholics are not Christians, which is most definitely not the case.

I love how it took 1 post to 100% derail this thread, there hasn't been a single post, other then the OP about the subject title, just who includes who....

and.. I have nothing to add, good for the pope!

I have faith in the continuous decline and disgrace of our human race...

Religion and Politics have much in common. Both have a truly good ideals and both are deeply corrupted by a$$hats looking to make themselves richer over other human beings. Until we all stand up to the fear and crap we are being served we can only expect the same treatment.

However, some of the best people I have met have been deep in faith and I have not met a politician that isn't in it for him/herself alone... That being said religion IMO is not the issue here and in-fact it is the smoke masking the political fire.

I hope if you don't have family or friends there Iginla-the-CP-poster and if you do I hope they will be far away from any conflict.

List of Christian denominations...have an hour?

The Catholic Church considers itself the One Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church that Christ founded.[4] As such, the Catholic Church does not consider itself a denomination, but as pre-denominational, the original Church of Christ.

No problem knowing which is the correct one, just happens to be the same one your parents belong to.

Okay it was poor wording. It should have said something like:

"Catholics and other Christian denominations"....now move along people.
