#1 Goalie Issue Solved in St.Lou

The Blues have solved their staring goaltender issue and upgraded their top line at the same time. It cost the GM's favorite player on the team and while they gave up youth, the team is looking better for next season as the trades roll in.

The deal broke down as so;
To Chi:
Dubnyk G, 26y 78ov
Staal C, 22y 70ov
Kreider C, 21y 54ov
4th round pick

To St.L:
Backstrom G, 33y 83ov
Richards C, 32y 73ov
$6.5 Mil

So in all the Blues are 9ov better on the top forward line, top defensive pairing and starting goalie than when we started. While its still not enough to win the cup this year there are plenty of more moves to make.

It's expected the Blues will now turn their attention to the 2nd lines as they are lacking any real talent other than Semin.

I know I gave up a lot to obtain Richards (and took a lot of flack for it), but the chance of landing both Staal and Kreider was just too tempting.

The deal definitely makes the Hawks younger, and their future brighter!

Giving up a number one goaltender really hurts, but hopefully I can obtain a 1B to lessen Dubnyk's load. I expect his rating to increase as the Oilers improve.

Obviously this deal looks terrible in light of what was given up for originally for Richards. Moreover, I can say that as a general rule you should never trade a good starting goalie without getting one back. I've made that mistake.

But what may save you is the fact that Backstrom may only be a starter for another season. If Dubnyk develops into the Oiler #1 in front of an improving team, and Kreider continues to product - you'll be OK.

Some risk involved in this swap though.
