Default Landlord/Tenant/Third party question

My friend's landlord hired a company to come in and replace the windows in his suite.

The company came in and left the place a complete mess, and damaged his brand new TV.

The landlord called the company and they are basically denying doing anything wrong.

Is there another step here for my friend? Or is it just tough luck?
