Shell to start drilling in the Arctic
So despite all the dangers of drilling in the Arctic the Obama administration has approved Shell to begin drilling there. This will not end well for many of our species up there when an oil spill eventually happens and they can't clean it up.
The drilling will begin right in heart of a critical habitat for Polar Bears.

Look on the bright side, perhaps this will take some heat off the Oil Sands.

Eff those freeloadin' polar bears.
In reality, this was bound to happen. Did you honestly think that everyone was going to sit quietly and ignore the reserves up there?

No, because there is big money to be made and when it comes to that man is willing to destroy anything.

You seem very sure about this. What are the next Lotto Max numbers?

It doesn't take a psychic to realize that eventually an oil spill will happen up there given they happen in much more ideal conditions.
Oh, and 6.9.14.26.28.31.38. Bonus number 12

Well it sure is a good thing that we are getting all of those stinking good-for-nothing polar ice caps out of the way so that they can have more room for drilling.

You didn't say an oil spill, you said an oil spill that can't be cleaned up with impacts at the species level.

As a bonus, with no ice, it will no longer be a polar bear habitat. Win-win.

soooo not to be the bearer of bad news, but there's been drilling in the arctic for a long time.
Just sayin'.

While I am not opposed to drilling in the Arctic, it is a legitimate concern.

And during that time a huge amount of species all over the world have gone extinct. So we should be shutting that down ASAP.

you're using valdez as an example?? really?
Akin to saying all offshore drilling should stop because BP filled the ocean with oil 2 years ago.

Ok, I guess I needed green text there. Obviously extinction all over the world has nothing to do with arctic drilling. I'm unaware of any extinction attributed to even a pretty worst case spill like Exxon Valdez.
I also disagree with the tone of inevitability in the posts above, that somehow by drilling we automatically get a huge spill.

Until a viable alternative comes along that maintains or improves our quality of life, that's simply not going to happen.

a much more real threat to species' existence would be the destruction of the Amazon rainforest.
I would think.
